Reflection Of My Sophomore Year At South Whidbey High School
During my Sophomore year at South Whidbey High School, I had struggles in math as do all students do but I didn’t be a failed class to hold me back from taking other classes that I was interesting in like Agriculture. With the new move of SWA to a closer location from the High School I was easily able to explore my option into different teaching styles like online math that SWA gives, and with that I was able to take all my math credits at SWA while still continuing my Agricultural Classes at the High School, this was very exciting for me to be able to have semi freedom between two school and the option of class and school environment which was a big part in my wanting to go to SWA. Even though I had most of my friends at the High School I

I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…

MWHS does not have classes that adhere to everyone’s interest. Students are not interested in their classes so this may cause them to lose motivation and will no longer be excelling in these classes. Their grades may start to decline and they will not be as excited to go to school. If students enjoy the classes they are taking usually their grades will increase along with their interest. In my case, I would love to take different elective classes that MWHS does not offer. If I were to move to a bigger school that offers these classes the environment may not be the same. In a bigger school their are bigger class sizes and you do not get to have the same connection with your teachers. The classes I would be interested in taking…

Ever since high school, I have struggled with school. After graduating high school, I graduated with a 1.7 GPA. I always knew I was an average student, so I accepted my GPA proudly. However after entering college, everything changed. I knew everything was going to be more difficult and demanding. Beyond all the hardships of academics, I was also going to have to pay for all of education by myself, because my parents could not afford it. This adversity made it extremely difficult for me to decide if I wanted to continue my education and enter college. However, despite my finical struggle I decide to continue my education and apply for college. I applied to Rockland Community College, where I wanted to work on increasing my GPA.…

I still can recall the feeling of pure unadulterated fear, and even thinking about it now gives me that sense of dread that has become all too familiar. Every first day was slightly different, but they all had the same effect on me, the uncomfortable feeling of being on the chopping block. In four years, I have experienced the feeling of brand new faces staring at me with harsh, judgemental eyes 4 times, something most high schoolers have to endure only once, if at all. However, these four different educational institutions have brought more than just scholarly concepts into my mind. They have each bent and contorted me in ways that have forced me to learn to become inure. Each transfer required me to adapt and learn to make friends with people who were not…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

Back in 2012 I was accepted into Early college academy at south-ridge (ECAS). This school is particularly special because it allows high school students to take dual credit courses in a community college. Obtaining high grades in my classes while also being required to do my best was something I always had trouble with. I was the the type of person who didn't mind a 70 when it came to report cards, until I found out colleges didn't like students with low grades or at least with low performance like me. My freshman year I made the decision to improve my grades and become a better student.…

I showed no interest in what was going in the school; I was so focused on the negatives that I failed to see the positives. That was up until around the middle of my sophomore year. Ever since I moved to KIPP, I envied my old friends. I was always aware of what they were doing at their school pondering on how lucky they were. It turns out, though, that the lucky one was me. As I witnessed some of the people I grew up with starting to give up on school and dropout, I realized how lucky I was to be getting the support I was given at KIPP and encouraged to go to college. Before enrolling to this school, I had no clue what a GPA or the ACT was. Yes, coming to KIPP is a bigger challenge than being at the average public school, but it has helped me set a better future for…

Almost immediately after receiving my final grades i decided to drop my AP classes. I also was extremely discouraged to join any clubs since i felt that disappointed in myself for not being able to get decent grades. However , with time i learned that what i was able to accomplish was actually amazing; I extremely challenged myself to-do something that was way out of my comfort zone. I acquired skills that I know will be extremely helpful to me in college. All by myself I was able to learn, how to learn the material on my own. I was able to demonstrate to myself that I do have the capability to come up with different possible solutions to obstacles that I face. I also learned that through perseverance and determination, I am able to still accomplish, at least a part of, my goals even in the toughest of…

Before attending community college, high school proved to be difficult in a very unexpected way. In my experience, high school failed to present any challenge. I quickly became more interested in things other than schoolwork, which was seemingly repetitive and irrelevant to my goals. Thus, at the start of my Junior year of highschool, I made a critical decision that affected me academically thereafter. Enrolling as a full-time Running Start student at Everett Community College immediately introduced me to a fast-paced learning environment that was more suitable to my goals pertaining to business. Quickly, my grades improved and I became passionate about the things I studied, in both business and nonbusiness courses. However, being a Running…

However, I ended up failing my calculus class and barely passing my economics class due to the numerous activities I was taking a part of and having to work part-time to cover my living expenses. The struggle that I had faced academically was a huge shock to me because I had been among the top ten percent students in my high school, and never once in my life did I had to take tutoring. Even though I was going to tutoring twice a week and setting more time aside to study, I still failed my exams which caused me a tremendous amount of stress. As a result, I packed up my stuff went back home to enroll at El Paso Community College to relieve the tensions of having to live by myself and to rethink of my goals about what I wanted to do in my college…

Last year was my first year in Ohio, so it was kind of hard at first. Since I was new, I didn’t know anyone. The first couple of days were kind of hard, but as I started making friends it soon got easier. My favorite reason to come to school was to see my friends. I hated waking up every day at 6 A.M. to come to school. My favorite class was math because I love math and Mr. Cowan made it a fun year. The class I struggled in was science. I might've still got good grades in science, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t stress me out and got me nervous. Some of the hardships I experienced was stressing over school work too much and people judging me for who I am and how I do things. One of the accomplishments I made was getting a GPA of over 4.0, which…

I look forward to your class and hope to gain a lot of knowledge not only in the world of literature, but also work on many soft skills, mainly public speaking. The thing that I am most looking forward to this year is finishing out my last year of high school on a high note. That may be getting high grades in my classes or getting to know my friends or teachers even better. The thing that I am dreading the most is the actual end of high school. That end will in a way signify the end of my childhood and will also be the last time that I will meet many of the friends that I have made in high school.…
