Reflection of MQM 221
|

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on myself, my personality, personal strengths and weaknesses, along with team formation, dynamics and my ability to effectively interact with members of my team. First, I will discuss what I have learned about myself after the exercises and self-assessment I have participated in. Second, I will reflect on my team and the different issues we have. Lastly, I will address the most important insights I learned about myself from the assessments. Complete citations of all support materials are available in the reference at the conclusion of the assignment.
The one assessment I learned about myself the most would have to be the one about stress. I have learned that when asked if I have a lot of stress and answer no, this is false. I am an individual who loves to help out but doesn’t realize when I have taken on too much. When having to list the various clubs and services I am on I didn’t realize how I made it through the week. With the amount I have taken on along with other uncontrollable stressors I have a mid-level scoring from the “How Stressed Are You?” assessment. The scoring says I have a 50% chance of developing a stressed related illness. While I did not realize the amount of stress I carry I now understand why I have been sick more often this year along with my sleeping getting worse.
Because of this assessment I decided to look into the type of personality I have. According to chapter 7 from the book I have more of a type A personality. Type A personality is more of a high speed individual who is impatient and can be very competitive. In various studies it shows that hostile and hyper-reactive is a major concern in terms of stress. Even though I am very active and eat well I tend to take on to much which can be considered a weakness which is a part of my personality and is dangerous to my stress level.
When first forming our group many of us did not know one another. Like in discussed

In week two, I had my sister and a friend take the assessments that I completed on myself last week. I enjoyed comparing the results that we all came up with. Each one of us was strong in certain areas and weaker in others. This is why it is important at a job to perform such assessments to help a manager see which employees can work together to complement each other and therefore being more productive.…

The roles of a team are based on the research into behavioural strengths and weaknesses conducted by Belbin. This theory suggests the roles needed in order to create the perfect high achieving team. Within each role there are some overlap of characteristics, however each role has specific features that will link team members to them. Each role will benefit the team in different ways and provide strength to balance every weakness. Each of the roles is as follows:…

In analyzing my level of stress, I would describe myself as Type I- The Speed Freak. Currently, I am working third shift as a supervisor of a large psychiatric hospital and I am also going to school full-time. I tend to be a perfectionist and small details can cause me much stress. For example, one of my job responsibilities is to enter the next shift schedule into the computer software. I feel the need to ensure that everyone is in the correct spot down to the last minute while the other supervisors tend to be less motivated to do this correctly. Because of this, I will correct the other supervisor’s mistakes along with completing my own tasks. I am not required to do this, but I feel motivated to have everything 100% correct at…
