Reflection About Moving To America
Five years ago, I recently moved to Colorado from Mexico. I got enrolled in school that same year which I was getting into eight grade. That was a big change in my life because moving to a different country is complicated. It wasn’t easy to overcome this challenge that I had to adapt but with dedication and hard work I was able to overcome it in a short period of time. When I first started school, I didn’t know how to write, read nor speak English very well. At that point all I probably knew was to say “hi, how are you?” I knew the basics which kind of helped me defend myself a little bit. Since I wasn’t a regular student, I got put in two ESL classes. One of the class was a period where they would help me with my assignments and homework. …show more content…
My freshman year was an important year because my teachers were pushing me more. Teachers were taking the modifications out of my assignments. Even though I still had my ESL support class, where they would still help me with my other classes’ assignments, I was on my own in the rest of my classes. In my freshman year, I could read, write and English much better and I felt confident in doing so. It wasn’t the best but it was my best. Sophomore year came and I was put in a regular English class, but it was 9th grade English. This made students make fun of me again because they I was the only sophomore in that class. Still that didn’t stop me because I knew how good I was doing. In my sophomore year I moved into the top 10% of class rank, which I was really proud of. Then my Junior year came, and I was nominated for an opportunity to be in National Honor Society. I was accepted and was part of NHS which means that I had to present academic awards. Lastly my senior year came and my hard work kept paying off. I was the only Hispanic guy in NHS, and then became the Vice-President. I also got Youth of the Year of my community. Finally, for graduation I was one of the three finalists for the Veterans award. All these accomplishments throughout my high school career meant a lot to me, to my family and to my

After I read the first paragraph, To me the tone of the opening paragraph as very optimistic for what America has in store for this mother’s future along with her daughter, Jing-mei. The tone of the primary section set the tone of the second passage as the mother being extremely cheerful for her little girl, and needs her to be fruitful in whatever she takes a stab at in life, or if nothing else that is the means by which I translated it. The third section proposes that America is the mother's last place of hope. When she cleared out China she exited an existence loaded with hopelessness. She doesn't have anything and nobody. In the wake of moving to America she chose not to try and consider her past. Moving to America she must be certain on…

When I began my senior year of high school, I was tired and unmotivated and chose to give up and not put my full effort into all my school work. I was so excited, my last year of high school. I was always told since I was a freshman that your junior year would be the hardest and the most important because those are the grades that colleges will mostly be looking at and that your senior year would be the easiest because you're mostly taking electives and you only need to focus on you main courses such as economics and english to graduate. When I started school this year I put off all my homework till last minute, I was absent more than usual, my work was sloppy, and I wasn't really participating. I kept thinking that all I need is a 65 in…

For the once isolated immigrant from the hot deserts of the Middle East, never have I expected the open doors of opportunity at my grasp and the growth that soon followed within the freshman year of high school in the US. Before my immigration, I never truly experienced the challenge of a demanding curriculum. As such, I experienced an immense culture shock within my mind. Despite the difficulty of the transition, I knew it was worth it because I discovered an aspect of myself that remained dormant till I entered the gates of my new school.…

The moment when you were first born is important. The moment when you first go to school is important. Many things happened to us in the past , but we only remember it vividly, probably because it’s not that essential so we’re not bothered by it. However, we will remember our watermarks forever even if we’re growing older by the days because it makes us who we are. Different people have their own different lives to live, so of course everyone’s story is not the same. As for me, the one watermark that I still remember until now was when I moved to America back in 2008, because it has changed my life forever.…

People immigrating to America today face a lot of obstacles. For example it may be hard to find a job because they may not be a skillful speaker yet and will also be competing against the millions of Americans looking for jobs. In America there is a total of 4.9 percent of the population unemployed, that of which 7.2 percent are college degree owners. For a newcomer it has become more difficult job searching because many high end jobs that people go to college for have been taken, leaving those people with degrees having better resumes for low end jobs. Also If a foreigner has trouble with speaking English the job may also be more biased as in they may be seeking out more fluent speakers.…

“We’re moving to America tomorrow” was what my mother said to me on April 21, 2007. I was playing with my toys when she told me the news and considering we had regularly joked about moving to America for as long as I could remember, I thought she was just messing with me. The next day, I realized that she was serious than ever.…

In middle school I remember being told that I will be receiving an award at our ceremony so I had to show up to the ceremony. I did show up and I remember being told to sit down in the front row. I did not think anything of it and was just there to be there. Then I heard them describe an award meant for the top student in that grade level and then they mentioned my name. I was so excited and so proud to show this to my mom and make her proud of what I have earned. It says alot about how much hard work I put in to school and sometimes I do not even realize it. It tells people that school is a priority in my life and it will continue to be one for my future education. This is what started it all for me, it showed me that I should strive for the…

This is something I am very proud of, for not giving up even when times became difficult in my seventh grade. My fifth grade year was when I first earned a 4.0 G.P.A and sixth grade was the first time I was ever student of the quarter. I remember my sophomore year being a Rotary student of the month, for the math department. We ate at a restaurant called Giuseppe’s and the food was amazing. It felt like a dream for me. I still remember the taste of the food and it makes my mouth water every time. Situations like these were the ones that made me want to keep striving for my goal. I have not received an award like that in a while, but that doesn’t mean I will give up because I know that when I graduate, all my hard work will be worth it. This is why I am working hard, I want to try and earn as many scholarships as I can so I won’t have to take out too many loans. I don’t have enough money to even pay for college on my own. I will be the first in my family to graduate from high school and go to college. My plan to go to college will stay this way, hopefully until the end. Even if my major changes in the future, all that matters to me is that I graduate from college. However, my desire for graduating is so high, that I feel as though I will go through no matter what happens in life. Thank you for your…
