Reflection 2: Exploring KU Majors
Reflection 2: Exploring KU Majors

Intending to reflect on learning majors I am exploring at the University of Kansas, I am exploring a major among the KU School of Education, in Capitol Federal Hall-Sport Management. By exploring Sport Management, which is divided into 36 courses, I consider two of the courses to be quite riveting, with Introduction to Sport Management and Sport Ethics. Additionally, it feels quite appealing to me, being able to take Introduction to Sport Management, and possibly being able to take Sport Ethics. To have an opportunity to be able to learn more about the fundamentals of leadership and time management (Introduction to Sport Management), and understand the technology and decision making (Sport Ethics), is such

I feel the need to say the coach job is quite a ride of a career. Being a coach is interesting, fun and it takes work. As a coach, you must conduct practice sessions, and again mentioning that you must have strategic planning prioritized. While all those tasks matter, those that have an intellectual disability far most at risk of not being able to become a coach as the chances descend and may be overlooked by a traditional individual, and it sucks unfortunately. I am not going to let myself down. I will stand up for myself knowing it is not okay to be overlooked due to my disability. There is never going to be a fix. If I really want to show my rarity in that aspect, I will need to quickly know my core interests, solving problems, and using leadership. When I declare this major, I have the chance to apply these interests. For instance, by being able to take Introduction to Sport Management, I will be able to address my core interests; I will be able to build off my knowledge in my strategic problem solving and leadership. As I learn more about those particular aspects in leadership, and strategic problem solving in Sport Management, I will also be able to increase my knowledge in my core interests. With all this said, Sport Management is more than just intriguing. I feel it a reality, the fact that for a sustained period of time, my desire was and still is to get a job or career in

Explaining things that people don't understand has always been a strong point in my time within the community. In sports, specifically volleyball, I am more experienced than most of the people in my grade. When someone is having trouble with a skill like hitting or passing I gladly help them and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Another quality that I have, is the ability to effectively communicate with others. Not only am I able to communicate with people that I am helping, but also with leaders within this club. I can communicate clearly and professionally through; email, text, verbally, and on the phone. When I have a planned absence from a sport’s practice, I notify my coach at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time. My work ethic has always been a strong point within my years of schooling. I have never been tardy to a class or skipped class to do things that I think are more important. Working in groups or teams has always been something I am good at. Working with teams efficiently and effectively is very important, this is especially shown on sports teams, were at practice if one person is slacking off it's harder for…

Springfield offers so many sports related majors that would interest me. Being born into a family that lived and breathed sports, that’s all I knew at first, but that was all I needed. By the time I could walk, my father put a baseball bat in my hand for me to swing around. As far as I can remember, sports was a part of me, my first love.…

    1. The author (Ostrander) emphasizes that students should not stress out over choosing a major. He tells us that what one majors in is less important than the overall qualities, knowledge base, and the skills that one develops. Ostrander also points out that a major is much less important than the skills that people gain by using a quote from an executive, “I look for people who take accountability, responsibility and are good team people over anything else. I can teach the technical.”…

I made the right choice to attend in Kalamazoo Community College because even that I’m new in college and I still don’t know a lot about what college is about, what benefits I might obtain through my college life or how is college system. Going to college is a very essential step in my life. I’ve always said that education is very important. I have to confess, that KVCC is not my dream college, because it is not a 4 year college. I do want to get my bachelor degree to do so I need to transfer to any university, if my economic resources help me into this process I might attend to Western Michigan University (my college dream). Unfortunately I do not have the Kalamazoo Promise to attend to WMU right away, that’s why I chose KVCC as my 2 year…

In today’s world, the subject of sport has become highly discussed and more popular when compared to the past. With the increase in obesity rates in America, a greater number of individuals are taking part in physical activities to help improve their health. Media coverage on sports has also increased dramatically throughout the years which may also have been a contributor to the increase in popularity. This increase in the popularity of sports has opened many doors to new career opportunities such as sport broadcasting, sport photography, health club management, or professional scouting. With all of these sport-related career opportunities available, this paper will concentrate on one particular profession that is very important to an individual’s athletic career: sport agents. In order to understand what a sport agent is, we must first understand the concept of an agent. An agent is defined as “a person authorized by another to act for him, one entrusted with another’s business” (Staudohar, 2006); thus, a sport agent represents most individuals involved in the sport industry, including athletes in sports such as football, baseball, or figure skating, and also coaches and sport broadcasters.…

Being a freshman at Miami University, many things are very different from the public school educational background back in Brooklyn, NY, where I was born and raised, until now residing in Oxford, OH, attending college. So far I have completed my first semester of college. I play football for the Miami University Football Team, but did not get to play my first year. So basically my hobbies are really just football. I attend Miami to study and receive my bachelors in Kinesiology/ Athletic Training. It is a real interesting and very fun major to be studying. I am not to very sure about any minors, because my academic interest has so many different opportunities just under that one major. I am currently taking 18 credit hours this semester. I have 3 Kinesiology courses, KNH 212, KNH 209, and KNH 206. AMS 207 (American Studies), ENG 105, ENG 112 (English), and EDT 110. Most of the writing assignments in my courses are very similar. We complete papers on the argumentative debates of topics, comparison, rhetoric etc.…

The two things I love to do most are to watch and play sports as well as be a leader. An athletic director position contains these two traits and this is why I believe this occupation would be very fitting for me. Athletic directors typical work with coaches and athletes everyday to help the team reach its highest potential. An athletic director is more of a behind the scenes type of coach, this position can help put a team in a position where it is easy to succeed. Whether it’s trying to get a team home field advantage or being able to get that team their new equipment.…

A point I want to make is that there are classes that are totally unnecessary for certain lines of work. For example why would a nurse need to have college multiple semesters of mathematics let alone calculus? I don’t think a doctor needs to know extensive math in order to write someone a prescription. Now in my area of education, being a religion major, I don’t think I need to learn to know the difference between different types of writing or need to know how to dissect a living organism. Instead of having me remember all these historic events that happened in the U.S. why not let me take more classes that have to do with communicating since that what ministers and pastors do for a living. I feel that majors should focus more on the actual classes that can contribute to the persons area of desired profession. One way a university could do this is by evaluating there courses a little deeper and see which course are more beneficiary to the students major.…

Academically, the school system has always provided me the tools so that I could learn, but outside the traditional high school classroom, there is a myriad of opportunities where knowledge can be obtained. The summer before my senior year in high school the opportunity to take classes at the University of Louisville was bequeathed upon me. My parents guided me into possibly taking core content material classes, for example, math or science. However, there was a wide range of classes in which I could partake in, but the ones which caught my attention were in the Sociology department. Although my parents were not thrilled with my decision of taking leisurely courses which were possibly not going to count towards my future major in college, I felt it was the intelligent decision.…

In “Not All College Majors Are Created Equal,” Michelle Singletary tells the reader that people go to college with their majors in mind but don’t have a clue about what actual jobs are available to them according to their education and on the job training level if any. She says students spend 4 to 6 years just studying for a certain major and not knowing what job would even accept the degree, and resulting in students having huge amounts of loan for a degree that never helped. Singletary also explains how a college education is not necessarily investing in a student’s future if they’re taking out huge loans or not finding out which fields are creating good paying jobs now. I do agree with what Michelle Singletary says about how some students waste their time and money on college. I also agree that college is worth attending, but only if you’re not left with uncertainty.…
