It also gives me a sense of self worth as I was able to positively impact person’s life.
Jamaica is a Nation on a Mission, working towards development and growth of the Economy and Social Living by the year 2030. Hence, the tag line “Jamaica, the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business”. In order to achieve this mission, four (4) goals were developed:
Goal 1: Jamaicans are empowered to achieve their fullest potential. Goal 2: The Jamaican society is secure, cohesive and just. Goal 3: Jamaica’s economy is prosperous. Goal 4: Jamaica has a healthy natural Environment
Of these four goals two are closely linked with community service/volunteerism namely Goal 1 and Goal 4. “Whatever the mind can conceive you shall achieve it”. Whether it be helping with school decorations, planting trees in the garden, or cleaning up garbage, doing service allows me to both aid my community and to know exactly how I am aiding it. It is for this reason that I enjoy community service. Often, I will sign up to help with small, individual community events. For example, a few weeks ago, I allocated six hours to help set up and operate various activities at the River Hill Community Health Fair. I am also a member of the American Red Cross, and frequently help blood donors at the Columbia Red Cross Blood Donor Center. Whether it be helping the community learn more about health, or helping facilitate blood donations to the needy, I know exactly how I help in community…

I serve the community through many different ways. I volunteer to help with things going on around the community, for example, I have signed up to help with registration for a race that was going on at a local gym. I have also contributed in helping kids and adults with special needs. I helped at Farm, teaching these people how to ride horses and communicate with others. Riding horses helped them learn how to use their body more efficiently. I feel as all of us that had the chance to contribute in helping them changed these adults and kids lives. They also changed ours on how we look at people. At the farm I also have taught at horse camp with the 8 and under kids. Being a counselor isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. You really have to teach the kids good communication with others around them and also some rules and morals that they will hopefully carry on in life. Like, forgiving each other, and not to hold grudges against one another.…
