The Recession of 2008 left multiple wounds in my family, especially after my father was fired from his job which he held for five years for being an immigrant. The “Great Recession” was not only a hideous word but a malicious truth in my household; it left us in a ditch hole. Getting deeper each day, the hole was in the way of my family’s future. There were nights when we were lucky to have enough beans and tortillas to fill our bellies; other nights, my stomach would gnaw with pain and hunger as I had given it to my younger siblings. My father was out on the streets, willing to take any work that was given to him, and my mother would pawn the values we held in much happier times. Its impact was that one of a tiny bullet skewering the heart…

The next few years we were on yearly payment plans. For me it was very stressful and I even felt depressed because although we were on a payment plan it did not feel like we were getting ahead because while we were paying the delinquent taxes the current year would be added on. Although we had our hands full we stayed prayerful. We were introduced to the step forward program and was informed to talk to a housing counselor. Things began to turn around for my family we went and took our application to the counselor and was turned down because she stated we were not in a hardship so we had to figure out another plan. That took a toll on us but I come from a very religious family and I was reminded that the God I serve will never leave us or forsake us and he will not put no more on us then we can bare. In 2009 the delinquent taxes on our home was fifteen thousand dollars with and additional ten percent interest rate, but as of today we are down to three thousand dollars and the worry of losing our home is almost…
