They did not plan out the kidnaping, they asked for too much money, and there was only one wise person. In the story City of Orphans, Maks is selling papers and he finds a girl laying in an ally, when she wakes up she is wondering what happened. After Maks tells her, Bruno comes in the ally. As they are trapped in the ally, Willa pulls out a stick and starts to protect her and Maks. They get out of the ally and run to Maks’ house, and go inside to get away from Bruno.
