Recruitment and Diverse Work Force
Talent planning in organisations
Before an organisation is able to carry out talent planning activities there are a few contingencies and factors that could affect the business in resourcing talent affectively. One of the main factors to consider is the location of the business. The location could mean there is a lack of talent or abundance. For example an IT company would attract the best talent from either Silicon Valley or Bangalore, however if the company is based in Glasgow how will the convince the best talent to come and move there.
A second factor is the budget. This is an issue for smaller or start-ups. Not having the right amount of budget or having no budget means you are restricted to the resources you can use to attract the best talent such a specialist recruitment agencies or advertising on industry specific job boards as they can be quite costly.
Business objectives a further more factor. As one of the objectives of the company would be to have good retention of staff however that might mean if they doing a good job of the retention of staff they might not necessarily need to hire new staff.
Lastly whether a company is growing or expanding is another factor. If a company is expanding than this will have to be taken into account however if a company is not expanding will increasing or atleast attracting talent be made more difficult? As potential employees will want to work for a company that is growing and not one that is shrinking or making cut backs.
While a company is thinking about recruiting talent they also need to realise the benefits and strengths of having a diverse work force. For example one of the benefits is you will attract more skills and strengths with a diverse work force. BY recruiting from only one region for example you could not get the expertise of someone who might be in the same industry from a different region who would know the market better. As a result of this another benefit is getting different points of view.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: a workplace where you can enjoy the challenges, co-workers, and atmosphere is very attracting for talent. They want to feel the company they work for as a second home, trusting on it and feeling the need to commit themselves fully in all job activities. An organization that care for its employees happiness and well-being is more likely to be chosen by talent, who will stay longer and be more productive. This in turn reduces turnover costs and increases profitability.…

This is a strong factor for an organisation at the moment when trying to attract and recruit talent into a business. The unemployment rate in 2012 has grown significantly; however, even though quantity of applications has increased when recruiting, the quality has decreased. I feel this is based largely around the current economic climate. A lot of ‘skilled and talented’ individuals appear to be staying in their current roles for job security, which is causing a huge skills gap for employers who are recruiting.…

    * The type of talent they look to attract: I mean which competencies will be more suitable to the job they want. * The sector which the organization is operating in. As some sectors are much easier to find the talents than others. As sometimes so sectors got many employees working in than others for instance, in Egypt, It is much easier to find talents in Tourism and hospitality sector than to find in Nuclear energy sector! * Corporate culture and how they accept the new employees: As this a major factor that would affect their approach; I mean to do it publicly so the employees know that the company is hiring a new CEO or that should be done secretly. * The size of the company is a crucial factor: Big businesses impress job candidates by offering a bevy of benefits, brand-name recognition and maybe even a big coffee brand name in the lobby of the company. The power of their brand: is definitely would affect their way. As big brands are easily to attract talents compared to a nameless brand. The resources available to them (financial and otherwise) that is why they would chose an easy to way to attract the talent (the recruitment method they would use) and their selection methods would be very tough to select the best from the big pool of candidates they get (attracting company).…

Advances in technology have created an illusion of a smaller world. At the same time, they have eliminated some of the physical boundaries that separate us. As a result, people all around the world are more capable of doing business with one another and the workforce has turned into worldwide melting pot of people. Is this diversity amongst the workforce a good thing? What about at an organizational level? I’ll look at 2 things; a study conducted by Bendick, Egan, and Lanier and a Tesco case study. I’ll summarize their conclusions and compare their results in order to answer the questions I have posed.…
