The reconstruction was followed by the civil war and took place in the southern states. The reconstruction was an attempt of bringing in confederate states back into the union. Amendments were added to the constitution to protect black people in the south. This was important because they were trying to make the south safe for the blacks.
Industrial Age
The industrial age took place in the 18th and 19th centuries. The industrial age began in Britain and took a widespread towards Northern Europe and the U.S. The industrial age allowed resources to be used as goods such as wood to build houses,textiles to make clothes, and coal to use as energy. This was important because it allowed us to use these help things.

The Great Depression
The great depression was caused when the stock market crashed. The beginning of the Great Depression was on Oct. 29, 1929 that day is now known as Black Tuesday. Sellers were panicking because there was no buyers. Share prices deflated and margin loans came due. Another reason for the Great Depression was because of terrible banking systems there were banks that ran independent and unregulated. When the stock market crashed many banks failed to stay open about 11,000 banks were closed.
Westward Expansion
The Americans believed in the idea of manifest destiny, the idea that it was their god given right to expand westward to the Pacific ocean and to Mexico. In 1803 Thomas Jefferson would buy Louisiana from Napoleon Bonaparte for 15 million dollars. Louis and Clark were told to explore the west until they got the Pacific Coast. People were motivated to move west because there was plenty of opportunities like the gold rush of California in 1849. Others settled in the great plains the land also had opportunities. Lumber was very popular in the northern states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan they harvested about 50 million acres of trees. This allowed towns to be built fast.
