Reconstruction Argumentative Analysis
Reconstruction was primarily to reunite the country and to construct a southern society not based on slavery. Since many dilemmas were left after the Civil War, the federal government tried to repair them.(Schultz,2014,275) Although the Reconstruction, era had quite the number of accomplishments, in my opinion, I strongly agree it was a grad failure.
When Congress established the Freedman's Bureau, it seems as if there was not enough to provide the necessities to grant full success to southern black and white people. For example, Freedmen's Bureau built 3,000 schools and expanded medical care throughout the South but the economic relations were challenging.(Schultz,2014,277) Due to the lack of support, it left the majority of free slaves uneducated

    Was Reconstruction A Success Or Failure

    The Reconstruction was the period during which the United States began to rebuild after the Civil War, lasting from 1865 to 1877. It was to repair the North and the South politically, economically and socially. After the Civil War, the South’s economy was completely ruined and needed help from the Union government; which they were trying to stay way from. The Reconstruction can be evaluated both as a success and a failure. Its successes were the restoration of the eleven confederate states back to the union, giving African-Americans (ex-slaves) their freedom and rights and providing aid to the freed slaves and poor whites. Its failures were the Anti-African Americans groups such as the KKK, the Black Codes, not protecting the rights of the freedmen and the southern corruption. Although African-Americans were freed and gained their rights because of 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, and the ex-eleven confederate states came back to the union, the Reconstruction was more of a failure than a success.…

    America has gone though many changes throughout history. There have been many Leaders and proposals for a superior future. One movement that changed its future was Reconstruction. Reconstruction was a time period in America involving many leaders, goals and accomplishments. By the end of the civil war, nobody knew what was to be done. With the assassination of President Lincoln in 1865, it was up to President Andrew Johnson to try to reunite former enemies.     For the freed slaves during Reconstruction after the Civil War that lasted from 1861 until 1865, the Freedman’s Bureau provided many resources to promote the welfare of the freed slaves. Since the Freedman’s Bureau brought families back together, created educational opportunities for blacks, and used the church as a means of social integration, this shows that the Freedman’s Bureau thought that these three elements were important in order to integrate slaves back into society by valuing education and providing a source of unification. Families were provided with funds from the Freedman’s Bureau in order to reunite many families that were divided during the slavery period, which posed dangers to many children who were left without parents after the slavery period. The federal agency assured the safety of the children of the freed slaves by funding transportation to reunite them with their parents. Education was a very important component of the Freedman’s Bureau efforts to desegregate freed slaves so that they would become literate individuals in order to assimilate to the society. Providing freed slaves with an education helped them acquire knowledge they did not have or were limited to while they were slaves under their masters. The church was a very important institution during the Reconstruction period for freed slaves. The Freedman’s Bureau made sure to utilize the church as an educational facility but also to maintain its value as a religious worship area for blacks. The federal agency provided churches for freed slaves through funding for new construction of churches and provideding education in churches .Whenchurches. When schools became overcrowded with freed slaves and their children who were wiling to educate themselves after living under hard times during slavery, new construction for educational facilities was encouraged to accommodate everyone who wanted to obtain an education.…

    To start with, the Freedman's Bureau failed. At the beginning, the Bureau was allotted a certain amount of money by Congress to help the blacks. The blacks had been slaves for so long that they just did not know what to do now, since they had received their freedom. At first, the goal of the Bureau was to give each black family between forty and sixty acres, some food, clothing, and an education. However the money that they had been given soon ran out and when it was taken back to President Johnson, he refused to give them more money. Therefore, the Freedman's Bureau was only able to educate about 250,000 of the over four million blacks. That gave a small number of blacks a head start on the others and that head start would be noticeable for years and years to come. All these problems called for “The Reconstruction Act of 1867”, which was instituted by the Republican Party.
