Introduction
This is a report written for Sharon Woods. Sharon is a self-employed beautician who is in need of a computer system to use in her business and for personal use and so came to I for advice. Sharon has a beauticians in the city centre, But will also be using her computer system at home in her study.
The computer system will need to have the facilities so that Sharon can use it for her business needs. Such as advertising, creating invoices and letters, keeping track of her accounts and to use the internet and an e-mail facility. On a personal note, Sharon’s computer system should be able to access the internet for some online shopping, downloading music, creating CD’s and have the facility for a personal e-mail address as well as the aforementioned business e-mail. Speakers are also important as Sharon will not only want to play music for herself but expressed the possibility of using the computer system to play music for her customers while they are receiving beauty treatments in her beautician. However this does throw up licensing issue laws and I shall inform her of this. Sharon has unlimited broadband in her home, But however does not currently have any means of using the internet at her beauticians.Sharon has set a budget of between £500-£700 for her new computer system.

Computer Systems

Due to Sharon needing to use her computer system in both her beauticians and at home in her study I am going to recommend her a laptop rather than a desktop system. The three laptops I have chosen to compare are:
ACER Aspire S3-391 Ultrabook (Acer)

An author wouldn’t need much of power and storage. A decent surface tablet computer or basic laptop would be fine for their needs. A SSD would be perfect for faster documents to load when getting that spurt to jot down what is in their head before they lose it. And a surface tablet would execute their means of travel and give them the ability to really write anywhere they please. As well a nice decent sized laptop, but I believe the surface tablet would be much more variable.…

The Mac book Pro will give you more performance than you will know what to do with. If you are looking for a computer that is fast a lightening (literally), then there is no other option I have been having my laptop for about three years now, and it runs just like the first day I got it. Now that is amazing, thanks to Mac’s Intel Core i5 processor! Considering PC’s like to crash on you are run slower than your grandmother walks after the first year of ownership. Its extra long battery life of up to 7.5 hours is excellent, because wants the point of having a portable computer if you have to keep it plugged in all the time. It defeats the purpose and you might as well buy a desktop. The hardware on the Mac is built to last, and if you need a buddy you can rely on, I wouldn’t choose any other option, but this laptop.…

My recommendations for Sarah’s Flower Designs would include a workstation, a personal digital assistant, and a solid state storage device or compact disk (CD) recordable drive. I would consider updating their current computer system into a small workstation. According to Axia College Week One reading Computer Hardware Technologies (2008), “Computer companies design workstations for a specific purpose, such as developing architectural blueprints or processing DNA” (p. 54). This workstation will be specifically designed to handle all the financial duties, client information, and order histories. In order to do this, I recommend upgrading the hard drive and the central processing unit (CPU). This would allow the new computer to accommodate all the information that they need to store and have enough processor speed to run all of the needed programs. I would also suggest using a solid state storage device or CD recordable (CD-R) drive to help store records and provide a way to backup important business files. In order to help Kim keep track the addresses and delivery instructions, I would recommend using a hand held computer or a personal digital assistant. This would be an excellent way to keep track of the many addresses and delivery instructions that they may encounter.…

While I have many needs for a computer, I think there are a few things that I would need in a computer if I were to shop for one today. First, I would need the Home premium version of Microsoft Windows 7, so that I can use Windows Media center to play music and watch videos and stream Netflix through my computer. Another important item I would have to have is Microsoft office 2010. I would of course need this for typing papers for school and completing homework assignments for this class, I would just need the standard version. For leisure, I like to use the computer to play video games and record music. So I would like a computer with a good video card, and enough RAM to support recording programs with linear and non linear editing programs (AcidFX, Cool Edit, etc.) It would also have to come with Norton Antivirus so that I can help protect my files while using the computer. I would also like a good sized flat screen monitor, a printer and basic speakers. I set a budget of $1,200 for my new PC, but less would be preferred.…
