Reasons To Eliminate Recess In School
Can you imagine a school where nobody wants to work; they just want to play? Well that's exactly how our school will be if you don't eliminate recess!

To begin with, eliminating recess is a good idea because it gives us that extra time to learn. We all know that the halls are crazy because of the limited time we have at our lockers, so we could use that time for lockers, because we all know some of our lockers are pretty small. Kids would have a lot more time to get organized, and so would the teachers. It would help to just eliminate recess and have more time!

Secondly, most bullying occurs on outdoor premises far from the teachers' views. So, eliminating recess would eliminate bullying as well and make the school a more fun and safer place.

High school classes should begin later in the day and end later in the day to accommodate students' natural sleep clocks, this would get them on a schedule and would also allow them to stay energized through they whole day. Schools should end later in the day so that when students get home, they won't have time to take a nap, which tend to make people stay up later then they need to. Teenagers need lots of sleep and by beginning and ending the classes later would make that a lot easier! If schools were to open up later in the day then students would pay more attention in their classes; They would be more alert and awake. Beginning schools later in the day would have a positive effect on everyone including the teachers and administration,…

Recess is a time in which every child in America experienced and enjoyed at one point in their lifetime. Look back to your own childhood: how important was recess and play time to you? Banning recess in elementary schools has been an important topic of debate for most school districts around the country. As stated by the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines recess as ‘regularly scheduled periods within the elementary school day for unstructured physical activity and play’” (Murray and Ramstetter 183). Almost half of all school districts have shifted…

This article contains information about recess and why it should be implemented in schools. Sometimes educators view recess or free time as a distraction away from educational learning. However, studies have proven that recess can help with student’s cognitive skills. “Relationships with peers and social skills often develop in the context of social games with peers, such as tag, soccer, and jump rope games” (Pellegrini, & Bohn, 2005,18). In addition, recess increases student’s physical activity, which can help reduce the…

With all the work kids forget about outside and will get caught up in a hot new game or product. With recess not being provided students should get the option to play a sport or do gym all school year. Some middle schools should invest their time in making a new schedule. The schedule should start school a little bit earlier so there is time to fit in a gym class (“Pros and cons of middle school sports”). If a school does not have year round gym classes or recess students might not have anything else to do besides homework.…

If school was all year round students will learn more, it will help students stay focused. It will also help teachers and stuff with more jobs security. That will give the parents more time together to plan trips and vacations. It will also leave a lot of stress off their parents because they will know that they are at school and not in the streets doing whatever. I feel there will be less breaking in housing, killing and robberies.…

Country´s that have recess including Japan and Finland actually have the kids with the highest scores in tests. As scope writer Mackenzie Carro says ¨For this reason, some of the countries that outshine the U.S in test scores, including Finland and Japan, have multiple recesses a day.¨ We would benefit greatly if we only had 1 recess a day but we don’t even have that. The main reason that we took away recess was because in the 1980s American kids fell behind other countries in scores in school. But did we ever think that taking away recess would actually hurt the kids instead of help…

In my school, we only have two days where we go outside for a recess. On a weekly basis, students lose their recess and end up sitting down watching the others play. Schools across the United States have taken away recess as a punishment for those who have misbehaved or haven’t finished their work. This punishment needs to abolished because according to the American Pediatric Association every student requires 15 - 20 minutes of outside time. Students who lose their recess are the ones who need it the most because recess provides a break for students so that they may refill their depleted self-control reserve, develop crucial social and communication skills, and enhance their memory and cognitive skills.…

Our children are so important and the idea that our schools don’t see that is a scary thought. Recess has been a way to allow our kids to connect with others socially, build new bonds through similar interest, exercise, and refresh after sitting in a stuffy classroom for so long. Students need recess because just like our muscles need rest time to build after a workout, so do our brains. If we are constantly cramming information in, our brain will become over worked and we will start to experience major health problems in our kids. It is even worse now a day because we have technology to battle with. Students are learning that play time is on an IPad or cell phone. They are losing a very valuable and influential time in their lives.…
