In my opinion, Reagan was overrated. I didn’t despise him but I certainly felt like he was a clown. That doesn’t sound very respectful but I respect the office of the president but it was very hard to respect him. I thought he was an actor who accidentally fell into the job of president. He was an actor so he was convincing. I don’t feel that he had enough experience to govern this country and that a lot of things fell into place and worked, not because of his great governing ability but because it was an accident. I know that Reagan did a lot of good, just like many presidents do a lot of good, but he did a lot that I feel was unacceptable. The New Right

“The New Right was a combination of Christian religious leaders, conservative business bigwigs who claimed that environmental and labor regulations were undermining the competitiveness of American firms in the global market, and fringe political groups.” (Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia, 2014). Reagan embraced the new right and seemed to speak for them. The people seemed to embrace him also. I am far from a perfect person and my children tell me that times have changed and I know they have but, how could this country embrace a divorced president when they were so skeptical of a Roman Catholic president. He was a divorced and remarried man who had children from a first marriage that were openly hostile toward his second wife and children from his second marriage that were openly hostile toward both their parents. This was widely reported when he was president. Reagan being the leader of a bunch of political conservatives with high moral values just didn’t seem to make sense to me. I didn’t feel he was for the people and that he didn’t care about the common man. The Ku Klux Klan and the American Nazi Party were also represented in this group.
