• Short-term reading goal: Complete two reading workshops.

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course?
I currently approach the reading in the course very cautiously. When reading any of the material in or out of class, I take my time. It is important to do so because by going to quick, there is a chance of missing some of the material. By reading slowly I can assure myself that I have better chance of taking in more information. • How might you incorporate three of the suggestions covered this week into your study time?
By using the four steps in active reading, I can optimize how well I concentrate during my study time. By previewing my material, I can get a visual guide to anything I may not understand before reading the material. Marking my work as I go along will help with keeping me focused and concentrating. By using correct time management and can make sure nothing interferes with my study time as well. I approroach this week’s reading by printing everything out so I will have all course work and chapters in front of me. Then I read the entire chapter taking note in my own word so I can understand them better. When I have all my notes and key headings marked out, I read the assignments to see if I read the answer. Sometimes I’ll read the chapter over again to make sure I didn’t miss anything important in my notes. I even reread my notes a couple of time to make sure they make sense, but before I do any type of finial paper I search the library to find more info if I quite don’t understand.…

The three study strategies I have and will use during this course to increase my effectiveness are having a quiet place to study, reading for clarity, and taking notes while reading. I have found that studying in a quiet place helps me to concentrate better. Also, while studying in a quiet place I do not have to worry about any distraction which allows me to understand what I am reading because I am able to answer the questions I originally had while after I surveyed what I was about to read. Note taking is also a study strategy that helps me increase my effectiveness in this course because I am able to refer back to my notes before completing assignments.…

Active reading is important because it keeps your mind dynamic and promotes a better understanding of what you are reading. You are able to answer questions you have that come up throughout the story-line and solve problems or confusions about the plot or characters. As you read along, you can make notes either agreeing or disagreeing with the current events taking place in the book. You are allowing yourself to input ideas of your own. Making notes in your book as you read through is, in a sense, engaging in a dialogue between the author and yourself.…
