Malacanang has declared February 25 as a special holiday for all schools nationwide. People Power Day or Araw ng People Power is a school holiday. This is in commemoration of the 1986 People Power Revolution. Senator Gregorio Honasan, a former rebel soldier, was one of the major figures in the 1986 EDSA Revolution. As the anniversary of the 1986 EDSA revolution approaches, he thinks that there is no reason yet to "celebrate" its anniversary. For now, the Philippines can only "commemorate it." "Siguro i-commemorate na lang muna hanggang hindi pa natin nakakamit yung mga tunay na pagbabago," he told reporters on Tuesday, February 22. Honasan said the promises of good governance and systemic changes that EDSA I sought to bring "are long in coming." But he said EDSA I may have inspired or even prompted a wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East. "Ayaw naman nating i-claim yung credit," he said, "but we have to accept the fact that 25 yearsago, we were state of the art in revolutions. Nobody can deny that." Honasan is currently pushing for the Freedom of Information Bill in the Senate. In addition, one of the veterans of the Edsa People Power I Revolution vividly recalls his experiences during the historic event that toppled a dictator 25 years ago and restored democracy in the country. and Cesar Sarino one of the officials of the People Power Commission (PPC), narrates how democracy-loving Filipinos converged at Edsa to call for a change in

In Albert Camus’s The Stranger, he shares with the reader, the life of an immensely complicated character. The story is presented to the reader by the character himself in most of the story. The character’s name is Meursault, a detached and semi-normal shipping clerk. Meursault appears to be rather stoic and is devoid of emotions. Meursault remains unaffected by passion and emotions throughout the story: however as the story progress towards the end Meursault is showing some feelings. Camus’s The Stranger is an example of existentialism and includes absurdism, as well as stoicism, some nihilism, and some naturalism and he shares with the reader examples of the aforementioned in almost every part of the story.…

As we enter the hall of the National Museum of the Philippines, the prominence of "Spoliarium" an oil on poplar completed in 1884 by National Artist, Juan Luna, is remarkable. The super- sized painting depicts a dark hollow beneath the Roman arena referred to as the Spoliarium where the bodies of slain gladiators are being dragged away for disposal. This is the time in history when the Romans travelled to Europe and collected slaves, otherwise known as the Vikings, to entertain other people in Rome. The Romans created the “Viking Games” where Vikings were forced by Romans to battle lions, tigers and against themselves in an arena. It strikes me as extremely violent, bloody and inhuman. The slaves have no other choice than to fight and kill in order for them to survive. The purpose of the Spoliarium was to “spoil” the dead bodies of the gladiators by exposing them to birds or any creature that eats human flesh. In the right side of the picture you will see an old lady waiting for the corpse of her loved one and an old man searching for the body of his son. The distress is palpable.…

The Philippines was praised worldwide in 1986, when the so-called bloodless revolution erupted, called EDSA People Power’s Revolution. February 25, 1986 marked a significant national event that has been engraved in the hearts and minds of every Filipino. This part of Philippine history gives us a strong sense of pride especially that other nations had attempted to emulate what we have shown the world of the true power of democracy. The true empowerment of democracy was exhibited in EDSA by its successful efforts to oust a tyrant by a demonstration without tolerance for violence and bloodshed. Prayers and rosaries strengthened by faith were the only weapons that the Filipinos used to recover their freedom from President Ferdinand Marcos’s iron hands. The Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) stretches 54 kilometers, where the peaceful demonstration was held on that fateful day. It was a day that gathered all Filipinos in unity with courage and faith to prevail democracy in the country. It was the power of the people, who assembled in EDSA, that restored the democratic Philippines, ending the oppressive Marcos regime. Hence, it came to be known as the EDSA People Power’s Revolution.…

Last February 25, the Filipino people once again commemorated the People Power Revolution on its twenty-sixth year. Such national event has made a mark in the history being known as a bloodless revolution which other countries attempted to do as well. For the masses, it was the ultimate symbol of the true empowerment of democracy. Having ousted a so-called tyrant through the unity of the Filipino people and without any bloodshed, the EDSA Revolution manifested that power does lie on the hands of the masses. It may have meant a success for some, especially to Marcos’ enemies, but the real question is, “Did the People Power Revolution really give us freedom? Change?…

The story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” is an exciting story. I would explain it as a car crash; people want to turn away but they keep looking. No one ever wants to hear a story about a young girl being kid napped or raped but when people do see it in the news they want to know all the details and that’s kind of how I felt reading the story. I felt that it was exciting because I didn’t see what was coming next; I thought the story would have been about a daughter and her problems with her mother but it turned out to be about a lot more.…

The red team who were the Mapua Cardinals include Jimenez, Ranises, Pascual, Mazo, Bernales, Guillermo, Co, and Del Rosario. It was an exciting game from the first to the last quarter of the game. Each team has the determination to win especially the Mapua Cardinals when they struggle to earn more points in the two last quarters of the game. The red team had a hard time in the first two quarters of the game but they instantly regain their lead as one of the team shot three-points. There was also an instance wherein the team amazingly got two consecutive three-points which enables them to a one point lead. The last minute of the game gave us the turning point of the story where the ex-cardinals (now struggling to get points), show an intense game play but failed to get any points. The Mapua Cardinals (red team) win by the score, 119-118.…

The 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution made a very significant mark in the Philippine history. It was a four-day series of a peaceful rally against the Presidency of Ferdinand Marcos. This rally brought down Marcos from Malacanang and was then by replaced by Corazon Aquino. The revolution lasted for four days, from February 22 to 25, 1986. The peaceful revolt was named after Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), the place where many Filipinos gathered to have their peaceful protest. EDSA Revolution was also known as the “Yellow Revolution”, after Aquino’s campaign. One of the main cause why Filipinos protested against Marcos was due to the assassination of Ninoy Aquino and the corruption of the funds that should be for the Filipinos. During the regime of Marcos, Philippines was under a dictatorial government. People suffered from Marshall Law and Coup’deta. The media have no freedom to express their opinions and to publish anything against Marcos in the newspapers. The most hurtful thing that Marcos did during his presidency was the corruption of the funds that was allocated for the welfare of the Filipinos.
