Malacanang has declared February 25 as a special holiday for all schools nationwide. People Power Day or Araw ng People Power is a school holiday. This is in commemoration of the 1986 People Power Revolution. Senator Gregorio Honasan, a former rebel soldier, was one of the major figures in the 1986 EDSA Revolution. As the anniversary of the 1986 EDSA revolution approaches, he thinks that there is no reason yet to "celebrate" its anniversary. For now, the Philippines can only "commemorate it." "Siguro i-commemorate na lang muna hanggang hindi pa natin nakakamit yung mga tunay na pagbabago," he told reporters on Tuesday, February 22. Honasan said the promises of good governance and systemic changes that EDSA I sought to bring "are long in coming." But he said EDSA I may have inspired or even prompted a wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East. "Ayaw naman nating i-claim yung credit," he said, "but we have to accept the fact that 25 yearsago, we were state of the art in revolutions. Nobody can deny that." Honasan is currently pushing for the Freedom of Information Bill in the Senate.     As we enter the hall of the National Museum of the Philippines, the prominence of "Spoliarium" an oil on poplar completed in 1884 by National Artist, Juan Luna, is remarkable. The super- sized painting depicts a dark hollow beneath the Roman arena referred to as the Spoliarium where the bodies of slain gladiators are being dragged away for disposal. This is the time in history when the Romans travelled to Europe and collected slaves, otherwise known as the Vikings, to entertain other people in Rome. The Romans created the “Viking Games” where Vikings were forced by Romans to battle lions, tigers and against themselves in an arena. It strikes me as extremely violent, bloody and inhuman. The slaves have no other choice than to fight and kill in order for them to survive. The purpose of the Spoliarium was to “spoil” the dead bodies of the gladiators by exposing them to birds or any creature that eats human flesh. In the right side of the picture you will see an old lady waiting for the corpse of her loved one and an old man searching for the body of his son. The distress is palpable.…

    It was an exciting day because of the basketball game held last January 28 2012 in Mapua’s gymnasium. The game was in accordance with the commemoration of the founding anniversary of the institute. It was a fight between the present Mapua basketball players and the ex-cardinals. It was a game between yellow team and red team. The yellow team was composed of Madrid, Palomique, Espinosa, Cinco, Alcantara, and Sta. Maria. The red team who were the Mapua Cardinals include Jimenez, Ranises, Pascual, Mazo, Bernales, Guillermo, Co, and Del Rosario. It was an exciting game from the first to the last quarter of the game. Each team has the determination to win especially the Mapua Cardinals when they struggle to earn more points in the two last quarters of the game. The red team had a hard time in the first two quarters of the game but they instantly regain their lead as one of the team shot three-points. There was also an instance wherein the team amazingly got two consecutive three-points which enables them to a one point lead. The last minute of the game gave us the turning point of the story where the ex-cardinals (now struggling to get points), show an intense game play but failed to get any points.     The 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution made a very significant mark in the Philippine history. It was a four-day series of a peaceful rally against the Presidency of Ferdinand Marcos. This rally brought down Marcos from Malacanang and was then by replaced by Corazon Aquino. The revolution lasted for four days, from February 22 to 25, 1986. The peaceful revolt was named after Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), the place where many Filipinos gathered to have their peaceful protest. EDSA Revolution was also known as the “Yellow Revolution”, after Aquino’s campaign.
