Reaction Paper About Being Hispanics
My dream is to become a cardiovascular surgeon who performs research in order to give healthcare to those who do not have access to it. Being Hispanic has taught me that I can express my feelings through my culture. Being Hispanic means that my dreams are achievable, but only if I believe in myself and fight for what I deserve. Being Hispanic and participating in many activities that promote my culture has definitely shaped my individuality by allowing me to stand up for what I believe in and express myself without being apprehensive towards what others many say or think. Giving back to my community means more than what world can describe. Because my county is not economically strong, the access to healthcare is not secure. However, through

I came here to the United States to further my educational goals. I had always dreamed about becoming a helpful person not only for my family but also for my community since I was a little kid. I have always thought that I am extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to study abroad; hence, I try to make the most of my time here which is spent doing volunteer work. A program in which I spend most of my time volunteering is called Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) that supports those who are not fortunate enough to go to school, or have a place to live. CEAP does not only give me valuable pieces of knowledge and experiences but also helps me understand that there are many people who are still suffering greatly and are desperately in need of our help.…

Many members in our own community show their good side by giving to others or being generous. For instance, Yough Intermediate Middle School, our school, is a perfect example of this generosity. Earlier this school year, the town of Connellsville, Pennsylvania had a massive flood destroying twenty nine homes and injuring nearly three hundred fifty residents. As a school community we organized a hat day. During this day, any student who donated one dollar or more the the Connellsville flood was allowed to wear a hat. Every last cent we received went to this cause. Similarly, my mother works with a lady named Elizabeth, more commonly known as Liz. Liz was diagnosed with…

Volunteering not only helps and benefits one’s community but, in a way, it benefits the volunteers themselves. For instance, I believe volunteering makes a person feel worthy, as if they’ve accomplished something because they made someone else’s life better or they made a change in their community somehow. Volunteering also shows that that person is generous, compassionate, and good-hearted, because he/she is kind enough to give up a few hours of their time and put it into their community. It also serves others without expecting to get anything out of their service. I believe that everyone should give back to their community because volunteering will make your community a more comforting and pleasing place to live in.…

I stress the importance of the community because this is the starting point; it’s the foundation of help. While initiatives can come down from state and federal levels, they are never as accurate or efficient as those on the community level. By avoiding transportation costs and items having to be non-perishable, we are able to give back more with less overhead expenses. Buts its more than that. We must learn to embrace our communities as family, and extend a hand in every way possible. If your mother was hungry and you had more than sufficient food, would you leave her to be hungry? Of course not! This is the same way we should begin to look at our communities and children. By helping one another out as if we were family,…

From when I was very young I have been involved in an organization in my hometown of Naples, Florida known as the Cancer Alliance of Naples. This non-profit, volunteer-based organization hosts community events to raise funds and awareness for local families affected by the horrible and very common disease of cancer. It is through this organization that I first discovered the benefits of being a volunteer and giving back to a community. This organizations helps families pay for hospital bills, provides transportations to doctor appointments, brings the community of my town closer and gives these families a well-deserved and needed break from the arduous struggles of dealing with this disease. The funds for this program are raised mainly on donations from members of the community as wells as from events that the organization has annually.…

The volunteer hours I did really opened my eyes to public generosity and how organizations work. I volunteered for the Kidney Foundation of Canada only once but it was enough. I volunteered with a friend, which made sitting in Sobey’s all day a little more bearable. I sat at a table, dressed up with posters, numerous pamphlets, and magazines on kidney disease and health. I asked shoppers leaving Sobey’s if they’d like to donate to the Kidney Foundation. Some people would walk passed without so much as a glance, but many others stopped to hear what we were and what the organization did for people. Sometimes people stopped on their own, before we even had a chance to ask the question. It really made me see the generous side of Fonthill and it made me really happy to see that people wanted to be a part of a difference.…

Helping others, as well as those in need, is something I always strive to do. Also, the Hope Center has prepared my attitude for my future as a nurse.
