I came here to the United States to further my educational goals. I had always dreamed about becoming a helpful person not only for my family but also for my community since I was a little kid. I have always thought that I am extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to study abroad; hence, I try to make the most of my time here which is spent doing volunteer work. A program in which I spend most of my time volunteering is called Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) that supports those who are not fortunate enough to go to school, or have a place to live. CEAP does not only give me valuable pieces of knowledge and experiences but also helps me understand that there are many people who are still suffering greatly and are desperately in need of our help.…
As a Hispanic woman who comes from a Hispanic cultural heritage I have aspired to become a Physician. My Latino heritage has influenced me to perpetuate my education and reach my dream vocation as a Physician within my community. I have huge fascination with science especially in the science behind skin and beauty. Although my motivation emanates from my love of helping people. I want to help people in need and provide extra help to those who come from the same heritage as me. An immensely colossal part of my cultural heritage is the language. Spanish is the primary spoken language used among Hispanics.…

To become a stronger individual, one must need their community to improve him or herself. From childhood to early adulthood, I have gained a plethora of knowledge associated with leadership and various volunteering activities. Therefore, my passion for helping others has strengthened over time. My outlook on life has been impacted by a variety of important people and the obstacles that I have endured due to helping out my community. Overall, it is with great honour to receive this opportunity in order to share my ever growing passion for my community.…
Many members in our own community show their good side by giving to others or being generous. For instance, Yough Intermediate Middle School, our school, is a perfect example of this generosity. Earlier this school year, the town of Connellsville, Pennsylvania had a massive flood destroying twenty nine homes and injuring nearly three hundred fifty residents. As a school community we organized a hat day. During this day, any student who donated one dollar or more the the Connellsville flood was allowed to wear a hat. Every last cent we received went to this cause. Similarly, my mother works with a lady named Elizabeth, more commonly known as Liz. Liz was diagnosed with…
Volunteering not only helps and benefits one’s community but, in a way, it benefits the volunteers themselves. For instance, I believe volunteering makes a person feel worthy, as if they’ve accomplished something because they made someone else’s life better or they made a change in their community somehow. Volunteering also shows that that person is generous, compassionate, and good-hearted, because he/she is kind enough to give up a few hours of their time and put it into their community. It also serves others without expecting to get anything out of their service. I believe that everyone should give back to their community because volunteering will make your community a more comforting and pleasing place to live in.…
I stress the importance of the community because this is the starting point; it’s the foundation of help. While initiatives can come down from state and federal levels, they are never as accurate or efficient as those on the community level. By avoiding transportation costs and items having to be non-perishable, we are able to give back more with less overhead expenses. Buts its more than that. We must learn to embrace our communities as family, and extend a hand in every way possible. If your mother was hungry and you had more than sufficient food, would you leave her to be hungry? Of course not! This is the same way we should begin to look at our communities and children. By helping one another out as if we were family,…
As a Nurse I plan to give back to my community by being able to work with the American Red Cross. I want to actively assist with community-based programs that focus on health promotion or disease prevention such as health fairs, screening activities, and health education programs. I want to be an active volunteer at the Caldwell County Free Clinic. I would also like to help develop a Mobile Doctor’s Clinic that could go out into the community to see patients that were unable to get to a doctors office but not sick enough to go to the emergency room.…
From when I was very young I have been involved in an organization in my hometown of Naples, Florida known as the Cancer Alliance of Naples. This non-profit, volunteer-based organization hosts community events to raise funds and awareness for local families affected by the horrible and very common disease of cancer. It is through this organization that I first discovered the benefits of being a volunteer and giving back to a community. This organizations helps families pay for hospital bills, provides transportations to doctor appointments, brings the community of my town closer and gives these families a well-deserved and needed break from the arduous struggles of dealing with this disease. The funds for this program are raised mainly on donations from members of the community as wells as from events that the organization has annually.…
All in all, Community Service means a lot to me. I get a great feeling when I contribute my time to my community. Whether it’s helping clean up my community or giving water to…
The volunteer hours I did really opened my eyes to public generosity and how organizations work. I volunteered for the Kidney Foundation of Canada only once but it was enough. I volunteered with a friend, which made sitting in Sobey’s all day a little more bearable. I sat at a table, dressed up with posters, numerous pamphlets, and magazines on kidney disease and health. I asked shoppers leaving Sobey’s if they’d like to donate to the Kidney Foundation. Some people would walk passed without so much as a glance, but many others stopped to hear what we were and what the organization did for people. Sometimes people stopped on their own, before we even had a chance to ask the question. It really made me see the generous side of Fonthill and it made me really happy to see that people wanted to be a part of a difference.…
Though I have not yet become financially successful, I still try to give back to my community through my community service. The “Hope Center” in Bushnell, Florida is where I volunteer. The first of the week, we take and organize donations then we open the store on Wednesdays - Fridays for anyone and everyone in need. Most of the time we provide lunch for our customers as well. Helping others, as well as those in need, is something I always strive to do. Also, the Hope Center has prepared my attitude for my future as a nurse. Volunteering at the Hope Center has definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made.…
