Reaction paper on the article “Families” by Dr. Michael L. Tan
First of all if I may, the article should have been entitled “Same Sex Marriage”, well that’s just my opinion. It is true that there are these kinds of parenting and family arrangement nowadays. Solo parenting, surrogate parenting, families with adopted children, blended families, multiple families, and families headed by same sex couples. There are many factors that affect this kind of family setup like work, how a person was raised, morality of a person, the kind of environment person grew up and many more.
On same sex marriage, I’m not really inclined to propitiate to such a union. Homosexuality is there, we cannot repudiate it. Some homosexuals even give recognition to the country for their outstanding work and we should thank them for that. But, this type of marriage is not a norm that many people can accept yet in our society at the moment, and there is no guarantee that things will get better if there is such. Yes, many countries have this kind of matrimony, so what. Should we be pressured to adapt this kind of union? Personally I think we shouldn’t be, but then again this is just my opinion everybody is entitled to their own.
On parenting, this is the hard part that many parents are devoted to. Being responsible for the upbringing and caring for a child or better yet children. Many parents try to give the best they can for their kids based on how they were raised and their morality. If we are to progress further as a nation, the government should strengthen the bond of the family for it is the basic unit of society.
