Reaction About K-12

According to President Benigno S. Aquino III (2012), “Naninindigan pa rin po tayo sa ipinangako nating pagbabago sa edukasyon: ang gawin itong sentral na estratehiya sa pamumuhunan sa pinakamahalaga nating yaman—ang mamamayang Pilipino. Sa K to 12, tiwala tayong mabibigyang-lakas si Juan dela Cruz upang mapaunlad—hindi lamang ang kanyang sarili at pamilya—kundi maging ang buong bansa”. This statement shows how our President Aquino values the education of the Filipinos that this K-12 program will be implemented and shall happen in our country. He sees this program as a new approach not only each individual will gain strengths but also for our country’s development. K-12 program or the Republic Act 10533 is composed of 13 years of education
This is issue is became alarming for us Filipinos since our country is still part of the 3 countries whose basic education is 10years that’s why we needed to upgrade our curriculum. According to Isagani Cruz(2010), “Enhancing the quality of basic education in the Philippines is urgent and critical". This K-12 program is a step in enhancing our quality of education we have in our country. If our country will be improving our country’s education, we will be similar to the countries China and India who are both part of the ASEAN integration wherein this K-12 is the big factor in achieving a high economic standard since a lot of skilled and competent workers were produced in these countries (Pacete, 2015). In addition, K-12 program can be considered to be the best for learning under basic education since it can enhance and provide more opportunities for the students to learn and develop. With this, a higher quality of education can be given to the Filipino students since this program can provide a sufficient time for them. This can result to the production of more skilled and competent Filipino
As stated in the article, “A better educated society provides a sound foundation for long-term socio-economic development”(The societal and individual benefits of Kto12 program outweighs its costs, n.d.) that is why improving our quality of education can be a big factor to achieve this statement. Several studies had shown that the improvements in the quality of education that our country will have can increase its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by as much as 2% (The societal and individual benefits of Kto12 program outweighs its cost, n.d.). Moreover, wider doors will open for the job market for the Filipinos if this K-12 program will take consider in our country. Hence, our Filipino graduates must be more competent because we need to be tougher with the level of other countries have.
