INTRODUCTION

Modern technology affects our life today. Cell phones, IPods, Laptops, Computers, PSPs, and many more are made by modern technology including social networks and sites. But now what is social networking means? A social networking is an online service, platform or site that focuses on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among people, for example share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real life connections. A social networking service consists of a representation of user (often a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. Most social network services are web-based and provide means for users to interact over the internet, such as email and instant messaging. Online community services are sometimes considered as a social network service, though in a broader sense, social network service usually means as individual-centered service whereas online community services are group-centered. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks. Do you know that social networking didn’t start with facebook? Social Networking is started with the BBS. Powerful new Social Networks provide great benefits, but they also change the way we live and not always in ways that everyone like. An example is the spread of air conditioning, which makes us more comfortable, but those who grew up before the invention speak fondly of a time when everyone sat on the front porch and talked to their neighbors rather than going indoors to stay cool and watch TV. Information processing and communication represents a powerful new technology, with social networking as the most recent service to be provided for free. Despite existing since the 1960s, the level of integration within society that the Internet maintains now has only been achieved within the last decade. The flourish of social networking sites that make the Internet such a pivotal tool in our interactions with one another began around the turn of the millennia. Since the inception of sites like MySpace in 2003, the concept of a website where users may display their details and interact with one another has been capitalised on. These networks, often establishing themselves in the form of blogs paved the way to what are now fast becoming our online identities.…

Social networking is a web-based service that allows individuals to contract a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their list of connections within the system (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). Fifteen years ago social networking did not even exist. The first social networking site, SixDegrees.com, launched in 1997 and was the first to combine the buddy lists that AIM and ICQ featured with the ability to create profiles (that major dating sites used). By the year 2000, SixDegrees was out of business as early adopters found there was not much that could be done once friend requests were accepted. Between 1997 and 2001, a number of community tools experimented with various combinations of profiles and public friend lists including AsianAvenue, LiveJournal and LunarStorm (2007). The next wave of social networking came in the early to mid 2000’s with the…
