Rawi Hage
The book “Cockroach” by Rawi Hage is a dramatic story which talks about a man who is not sure in his identity. This book conveys that the protagonist is a special character because he isn’t able to differ Love and Sexual attraction, nor can he differ from what is bad or good, nor he isn’t quite sure that he is a human being. He is an exceptional, unique and even in some way an inimitable person. This essay will help you to understand why and how he is a special character.
Firstly, the protagonist already is considered special when he thinks he is a cockroach. The impotent rage leads him to think that. When he goes to see a therapist, he says to her that it is his sister that made him think that he could be a cockroach. We can better comprehend

He steals all the time. Since he was a kid, he started to steal back in his hometown in Iran. He steels because even though he has a bad reputation. A reputation of a thief that draws no one to trusts him. For example, when Matild tells him:” Everyone was saying that it was you who was stealing the toilet paperzz.” () in this quote we can observe that theft for him is normal. Because such presumption is wrong, it makes him an exceptional person. In the book we can read that he steals everything from money to toilet paper. For him it is like an amusement. The protagonist does not only steal from his friend Reza, but also from his therapist. In the book, he goes into Reza’s house and starts to look for money, hash, food and coke. Basically he grabs everything he sees. In the book, the protagonist goes into his therapist’s office and steals her notes. In fact the author uses irony to demonstrate his theft. The irony is in his action of stealing something that is helpful for him. He doesn’t differ well and bad, he acts like a child who never learned good manners. Therefore, it makes him very special and deferrable from other people of his

The short story uses the narrative convention of descriptive language which details the events of the boy’s life and position readers to question the worlds outside texts. In the beginning of the story the boy is present as destructive with an obsession for insects. “In the spring he added to his large collection of eggs; raiding nest……. and covering the boxes later with non-reflective glass”. The evidence clearly shows that the boy has an interest in bugs and insects which is normal in young boys. However as the story progresses the readers are exposed to a much more sinister side of the boy who is now a man. “He had treated women as he had always treated every living”, this shows us that his childhood obsession has resulted in his behaviour as a man. The boy’s story is very similar and can be compared to stories of criminals in the real world in which a deranged young mind grows into a mind of a psychopath. Descriptive language has been used by the author to establish the connection between worlds within texts and…

Prior to that period of time, he was a rather timid boy but after reading the books, he had changed to one that is able to embrace his nature such as his sadist one upon discovering it by accident. The narrator choosing to embrace it as opposed to keeping it smothered within him reflects the ideals of individualism that he had learned. Similarly to how he learned about himself, he also becomes more emotionally mature which can be seen through him solving an unwanted pregnacy…
