In 2012, at the London Olympic games Renaud Lavillenie walks to the back of the runway checking his final steps. He takes a few deep breaths before making a dash for the pit. Renaud Lavillenie holds the world record for indoor pole vault at 20’2” but this tremendous athletic feat is the product of decades of hard work. His distinct skill for this sport was distinct at a young age, but his first official competition occurred in 2003 at an invitational competition in Paris in which he took first.
