Racism Today
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” - Martin Luther King Jr.

Is today that day? As a nation are we able to succumb racial harmony, or to go as far as tolerating are differences. We all have differences that is what makes the world interesting but instead of dividing us why can’t we be tolerating of cultures and to accept racial harmony across the states. Great successors such as Dr.King have tried to change the world when it came to race, gender, and differences of cultures. Of course these are our weak points as a nation. Racism is the most well known problem when it comes to equality between people, because it is not only groups such as the KKK but it’s within

A group that began on Twitter, #Blacklivesmatter was created because African Americans felt there was a need to address the brutality police officers were thought to have given to black people. There have been many conflicts based on this protest, and instead of focusing on the more important things in life people have argued over this so many times over many occasions. Whether or not people agree with the protest, the people who were involved with the cases of thought brutality should never have to fear for their life over the color of skin. Racism should not be top priority of worry, as no one should ever be viewed as a race but as as the type of person they are. Racial harmony will never be able to be achieved as someone will always have prejudiced thoughts towards someone because of color of skin. Although racial harmony can’t be achieved completely it can be viewed as a goal as a nation. Racial harmony is achieved in brave situations, such as the military, there is no focus on skin color here, just one goal, to protect what you need …show more content…
For example I am a white female, I am supposed to love ugg boots, skinny jeans, and a skinny vanilla latte from starbucks. Or say a hispanic person is viewed as an illegal immigrant who works in construction. Or if someone sees an Asian person they automatically think they are a genius and they are bad drivers. Now, especially in today's modern times the average person will see a muslim, or someone with a middle eastern background and think of a terrorist. Stereotypes are made out of influences of few but not all. Yes, I would say there are a few white woman who match the stereotypes. Although many stereotypes are incredibly offensive, they are incredibly untrue. Stereotypes are used to divide us into what we aren’t. Tolerance of cultural differences is and should be expected although it is difficult when society pressures into stereotypes, racism and will attempt to divide with anything that can divide us. Racial harmony will never be able to be achieved as someone somewhere will have prejudice thoughts towards cultures and races. So it is not what we are but who we are, and who we are

Stated differently, we must refrain from caving into the concept of race as an acceptable social norm that can be used to differentiate people. Secondly, we must collectively strive to produce an environment where racial tolerance and equality are not a set of conditions, but instead become moral principles that fortify our faith in one another. If we are ever to fulfill Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream, we must first attempt to understand the social conditions that have and continue to subjugated many minorities to a life despair and repeated…

In my studies I have found confirmation of my belief that diversity in the United States will only improve with time as the increasing number of interracial unions increase. I have also affirmed my belief that so long as society chooses to put people into groups we will always have issues surrounding fair treatment of people from all walks of life. It is the collective mentality that harms our nation the most. So long as people are divided they lack the strength to overcome governmental intrusion into their personal lives. So long as “we the people” are divided we will continue to see attacks on various groups of people, rather than the peace that unity can bring.…

After the March on Washington fifty-two years ago civil rights activist Dr. Martin King Jr. delivered for the first time his "I Have a Dream Speech" at the Lincoln Memorial. During the speech, Dr. King offered inspiration and called for an end to racism in America. In fact, he spoke on his personal hopes and dreams for people of all races in his country. One of his hopes was that one day people of color would be judged based off their character, rather than their skin color. As for his dream that he expressed in speech, it was that a day would come that colored people and whites could unite and see one another as equals.…

“ I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin , but by the content of their character,” said Martin Luther King Jr. MLK was a Civil rights activist. This quote to me means that no matter what color or race you are, we are all equal. Now in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird inequalities are seen in the community, school, and churches.…

Fifty five years ago Martin Luther King Jr. stated in his famous I Have a Dream speech: “One hundred years later the life of a Negro is still badly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination.” Racism has plagued this nation for hundreds of years and many unforgivable things have been done, but progress has been made and there may be a light at the end of this tunnel of racism. Although King’s words are indefinitely true, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Raisin in the Sun, and American Denial show that, through paradigm changes brought on by life-altering events, there is hope for a future where black and white people are treated equally. The beginning of a change in behavior is a change in mindset, which can be seen in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.…

In today’s society in America we still have and witness racism. Today we expect that our schools create an equal outcome for all its students. “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” One of the most memorable quotes in American history was given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his I Have A Dream speech. This speech shows current Americans and the younger generations to come of how King and his movement changed the face of the country (Kazin, 981). To this day, Americans celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, schools all over the nation still teach children the impact that he had on American…

Whether it be the hate crimes for our skin pigmentation or being considered to be a lost cause, we matter. We are not the “super predators,” that Hillary Clinton has dubbed our black men to be, we matter. We have fought alongside our white brothers, while still enduring discrimination, in wars upon wars, and yet we have not been acknowledged until recently, we matter. This fight has been fought since we set foot on this land, now just with a different name. First it was the Nat Turner’s Rebellion slave revolt, then the Civil Rights Movement, and now this. We are tired of having to fight, but we will not stop until America understands and enforces measurements to stop the oppression, the dehumanization, the criminalization, and other injustices, towards the African-Americans, because Black lives matter…

Although some people may believe that there is not much racism left in our country it is still here. Hispanic, Asian, Blacks and many other people experience racism, some on a daily basis. Lately one of the biggest focuses has been the Black population. The black lives matter movement came about after a series of police killings. It was made to bring light the injustices that were taking place. Yes, there are many laws in place but they don’t always protect you from harm. When you look back in history when it came to blacks they weren’t so quick to make things fair. For example, the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves but it didn’t give them any rights. Blacks in southern states lived in a world of disenfranchisement,…

There are various solutions in the world to prevent or decrease racism. There are ways we can minimize racism through the workplace in making institutional policies. Which stop or at least prevent racism from as simple as racial carding to prevention of pulling the trigger. However, this does not dictate that any attempts would put an end to racism because the thought behind being superior to another skin colour, hence racism, may exist for eternity. What I am attempting to voice is that institutions and the general public can work together and help bring racism down. If people can think of life from a different perspective like a bigger picture, and not to feel superior from other individuals because of their skin colour. African-American or not, and accept them for who they are, would be a significant step towards bringing racism to a near…

"...Until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." These powerful words were uttered by Martin Luther King in the midst of the racial unrest in the 1960 's. During this time period many people of the black race were affected with discrimination of all sorts. Now- a -days, crimes once driven solely by hatred for one 's race now stem from opposition to one 's religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. These crimes known as "hate crimes" can be prevented. Solving this problem is not impossible, but something that can unite us as a country.…
