Racism, Terrorism and the Muslims
Racism, Terrorism and the Muslims
“What's really hurting me, the name Islam is involved, and Muslim is involved and causing trouble and starting hate and violence. Islam is not a killer religion. Islam means peace, I couldn't just sit home and watch people label Muslims as the reason for this problem.” -Muhammad Ali
Islam means the religion of peace. Ever since the September 11 attacks, thousands of Muslims have been accused of terrorist attacks they have not committed. Terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate political purposes. Terrorism as an act of violence has been committed by people from all religious and political backgrounds. Several groups who have called themselves Jews, Christians or Muslims have used terrorism to force their religion to come upon other people of different religions. However, Islam has been the most popular religion to have fingers pointing at for committing terrorist’s attacks all around the world. Whenever a terror incident occurs, Muslims from all over the world especially those in the Western countries hold their breath and pray that the terrorist not be a Muslim. Most Muslims now are raising their voices and condemning terrorism.

They encourage others who don’t know Islam as well as themselves to believe that Islam promotes terrorism and killings.
God and Prophet Muhammad have said clearly that Muslims cannot kill innocent people and that there is no fitnah, jihad or exception to that. In the Qur’an, the very first verses show how Muslims should not become a terrorist in the

The words Islam and Muslim are closely related to the word “peace.” The words of Islam and Muslim propose the inner tranquility that is achieved with the surrendering to the divine. Islam teaches that all religions originally had the same essential message - which was to submit whole-heartedly to the will of God and to worship Him and Him alone. For this reason, Islam is not a new religion but is the same divinely revealed Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The word "Islam" means peace and submission. Peace means to be at peace with you and your surroundings and submission means submission to the will of God. This relates to our discipline from last week, which is “History”. Ever since the bombings of September 11th 2001 of the World Trade Center and how Extremists that claimed to be Muslim admitted committing those horrible crimes, Muslims have been thought of as terrorists almost everywhere all over the world. From disturbing comments, to “random” security checks in airports; Muslims have been scrutinized by the public and the media out of fear of “Terrorism”. A lot of those people who commit those horrible crimes claim to have done those things (they don’t admit that they’re crimes), because their religion –Islam- tells them to do so. However, I know for a fact, because I am Muslim and come from a population where the majority are Muslims, that this is not what Islam preaches or teaches. Islam is about forgiving and living in peace and harmony. This article proves the effects of History on people’s images of Muslims, because a great amount of people believe that Islam preaches terrorism and/or Muslims are…

In the 21st century, the majority of people have started raising questions about Islam whether it condones or promotes violence against the innocent people or people who are not following this religion. There are so many debates going on about this issue in all over the world recently because people are trying to figure out if it is true and some people are trying to show that Islam never brings any trouble with itself to human’s life or prove that no actually Islam doesn’t even have any relationship with violence. Unfortunately, Islam has been associated with violence and aggression so many times as the terrorist groups which are unconsidered as an Islamic organization have killed or attempted on lots of innocent people so far. To be honest, most of the terrorist groups either in middle east or Africa are somehow related to Islam and that has been the biggest factor enables people to think about Islam in that way. In contrast with these conceptions which are not true and accurate, there will be three logical and coherent reasons in this essay explaining why Islam has nothing to do with violence or aggression. The first one is that religions do not affect people in bad ways which will make them turn into a violent person spreading aggression to the people in society and secondly the main purpose of Islam has always been to promote peace and justice in human’s life and lastly being violent depends on the people, if she or he is violent then she or he promotes violence, not their religion.…

Islam is an ill-perceived religion throughout most of the Western world. Once known as a quiet and peaceful religion, the general perception of people from other religions and most of the world upon Islam is quite distorted. Ever since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, an influx of discrimination and prejudice towards Islam and Muslims has spread throughout the world. In “Understanding Islam,” by Kenneth Jost, an article about several accounts of how Muslims are mistreated and stereotyped throughout the world, brings up a recent poll within the United States says that 45 percent of those surveyed has an unfavorable view of Islam. The article also states that a CBS poll in April 2006 found that 46 percent of those surveyed believe Islam encourages violence more than other religions. Westerners must recognize the need to combat the backlash of stereotypes and negativity towards Islam within the 21st century. In order to do so, we must first truly understand Islam by comprehending this unique faith and culture.…

Last October, my older brother and I were at Madison Square Garden watching the Knicks season opener against the Miami Heat. We both were ecstatic because we have never seen a live sports game before. At the end of the night, after the Knicks first win of the season, we were leaving Madison Square Garden. Soon after we left, a group of Middle-Aged men started to follow us. Slowly they caught up and were only a few feet behind us. At first we thought that we were being a bit paranoid but soon after the group of men began to badger us. They started to throw beer at us and began to make racial remarks. They were saying things such as “Muslims aren’t welcome in America” and one of the guys said to his friend “Be careful they might blow us up”. Many people witnessed the situation at hand and did not even once try to intervene. We didn’t know why they were doing this to us as we have never seen them or spoken to them ever. We started to run to the train station and thankfully there was a police officer standing there. We tried to explain what happened but he didn’t want to hear any of it and told us to leave. He then continued to read his newspaper. We both knew that there was nothing to do so we took the long train ride home.…

Condemning the attempts to attribute terrorism with Islam and the holy Prophet of Islam, he said that Islam advocated peace and forbade hatred and voilence in every form. Islam accords extreme respect to human life. Killing an innocent person is considered to be a major sin in Islam, which declares the unlawful killing of a single person as similar to murdering all the human beings, and protecting a single life at par with protecting all the human beings. Those who ascribe terrorism to Islam are the enemies of truth and justice. The JUH president feared that this propaganda would weaken the fight against terrorism.
