Racism Against Different Religions
Mahatma Gandhi wrote, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Many people complain that the world needs to be changed in some way. However, no one is willing to actually put time and effort into being the change. Many people now are starting to realize that sitting around complaining about everything isn’t going to work and teenagers today are starting to make a difference. I think that I have a great way to get rid of one of a huge problem in society today.
I want to change the world by making all religions respected. Racism against certain religions is a main problem in society and many people are getting upset about it. Muslims are one of the most disliked religions, mostly because of the terrorist attacks on Paris. All religions need

There is a reason why I’m talking about this (super exciting and totally fascinating and not boring at all) subject. The reason is politics. Specifically the 2016 election cycle and the massive mess that was the presidential election. People during the campaign were talking about how to fix america, and that got me thinking, how do I fix the world? Okay, maybe…

People inspire change in many different ways. Some prefer to do so by volunteering, others prefer to do it by providing some sort of resource or item. Regardless of the method, a strongly motivated individual can truly make a difference whether it’s helping a small group of people, a large population, or a worldwide cause.…

In the great span of human history there have been the few to rise up against the common ideals and bring forth innovative creations that changed the course of humanity. They don’t have to be professionals, highly educated, or from wealthy, noble families. They need only the drive to fulfill a purpose, prove a point, and change lives. Henry David Thoreau, a well-noted polymath of the 1800s, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a pivotal African-American activist, spoke about the necessity for change in their time in influential ways.…

In the novel Maus II by Art Spiegelman you hear first hand from a survivor of Auschwitz the experiences of the holocaust and the horrific consequences of racism. Race is something that has developed over time and is constantly changing. Race is something that is seen differently by different people. “There is a continuous temptation to think of race as an essence, as something fixed, concrete, and objective. And there is also an opposite temptation: to imagine race as a mere illusion” (Michael Omi and Howard Winant, Racial Identity 183). Race can be seen as something concrete or as something changing. “The effort must be made to understand race as an unstable and “decentered” complex of social meaning constantly being transformed by political struggles” (Michael Omi and Howard Winant, Racial Identity 183). Race hasn’t been and will never be something that is set in stone and will never change. As society progresses and changes over time, so will the definition and make up of race and racism. “We should think of race as an element of social structure rather than as an irregularity within it, we should see race as a dimension of human representation rather than an illusion” (Michael Omi and Howard Winant, Racial Identity 184). The most common definition for race (the word definition is used very lightly because race is something that is always changing) is “race is a concept which signifies and symbolizes social conflicts and interests by referring to different types of human bodies” (Michael Omi and Howard Winant, Racial Identity 183). Race is something that distinguishes “different” human beings apart from one another. Sometimes in the end result of this some humans are put “higher” or at a level of greater important than others.…

The Reverend Bryan Massingale came to Gonzaga University to do his lecture called “Cultural Racism and Catholic Ethical Reflection.” Reverend Bryan Massingale is a professor at Marquette University and is an author that has been published in many different academic articles. His lecture that he was making was from his newest book that he wrote called “Racial Justice and the Catholic Church. At the start of the lecture Rev. Bryan Massingale started off by telling three different stories that he noticed or have happen to him personally. The first story that he told was about a crime that he read about, when a group of white teen agers beat to death a black male, for no other reason other then the color of his skin. The next story that he told was when he was at a conference with other clergy and a nun came up to him and made racist comments. She said that he must have been taught by the white priests because the way he talks is so clear and he sounds so educated. Rev. Massingale then told her that she was saying offensive things and they did not talk the rest of the weekend. The last story that he told was when he was teaching and having a discussion on black athletes on the professional level. After class one of his students came up to him and the comment that they did not sound black that they were acting white because they sounded educated. After he told these stories he went on to say that the most important part of defining racism was that it was cultural. A culture is a group of people that makes a common set of values. Massingale was making the claim that racism grows from the common set of values people have. There can not be racism unless the whole group calls it to be okay. Since racism comes from our culture racism can be an unconscious decision that we can make. When racism comes from the culture you are living in then people believe to be a…

Racism, or prejudice towards people that are different than you, is a necessary evil that has been around since ancient times. Racism has been around long enough that people have spoken out against it in the past. One such place where being racist or prejudiced has been taught against is the bible. The very idea of racism or being prejudiced to a race of people, has been otherwise been ruled out by the bible. There are many different scriptures and stories in the bible that say things as “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10). Such a story as this one demonstrates how God himself deems racism as a very evil idea. Jesus, God’s only son, is the person most notable for telling us to be kind to others regardless of our background or ethnicity, that we are all children of God. The Church also has teachings about the evils of racism, mostly reflected from biblical scriptures and teachings. Through biblical scriptures and passages as well as Catholic social teaching, racism towards one another is an evil that must be dealt away with in the eyes of the church and God.…

    Racism In Society

In the past decade, racism has changed along with how society has changed. For example, in today’s society, it is rare to see a store, restaurant or anyone who just will not serve anyone because they are black; however, it can still happen. In society today, world racism is taken and given in a different way. When the Internet came into play during the 21st century and social media following not far after, the characteristics of racism changed. Author Emily Fekete writes in her article Race and (Online) Sites Consumption, “Geographers have noted the increasing role of the Internet and social media in everyday life (Zook and Graham 2007; Elwood 2011; Kitchin and Dodge 2011; Stephens 2013)”. Not only has social media increased, but in doing this,…

Last October, my older brother and I were at Madison Square Garden watching the Knicks season opener against the Miami Heat. We both were ecstatic because we have never seen a live sports game before. At the end of the night, after the Knicks first win of the season, we were leaving Madison Square Garden. Soon after we left, a group of Middle-Aged men started to follow us. Slowly they caught up and were only a few feet behind us. At first we thought that we were being a bit paranoid but soon after the group of men began to badger us. They started to throw beer at us and began to make racial remarks. They were saying things such as “Muslims aren’t welcome in America” and one of the guys said to his friend “Be careful they might blow us up”. Many people witnessed the situation at hand and did not even once try to intervene. We didn’t know why they were doing this to us as we have never seen them or spoken to them ever. We started to run to the train station and thankfully there was a police officer standing there. We tried to explain what happened but he didn’t want to hear any of it and told us to leave. He then continued to read his newspaper. We both knew that there was nothing to do so we took the long train ride home.…

When enough teens come together, we make waves of passion and perseverance. Time is life, time is of the essence. If in four seconds humanity could make such a drastic revolution to this planet, then I want to make this planet go another step into the future without extinction. We are the future leaders. We are future of continued revolution. We make the change to alter the direction we are heading, to a more environmentally friendly path. While intelligence blinds you, wisdom teaches you that for every action, there is an equal reaction. So don’t get blinded by the struggle for this (picture of money), because remember deep down that the future is resting on our…

Some are calling for a “ban” on the religion of islam for its extremist followers for the recent terrorist attacks from the terror groups from the middle east. Theses groups consist of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and many more. One of the most recent terrorist attacks was in Damascus killing 74 from a twin bomb killing around 50 pilgrims and 20ish government fighters. With these attacks on the rise it only hurts the religion in real world. The aftermath of these violent crimes are usually multiple casualties, wars, and hate crimes; after the 2001 attack “9/11” the percentage of hate crimes for anti-islamic heritage shot up by over 4.5 percent , the past year it was 0.35 percent of all hate crimes reported then shot up to 4.9 percent. To the public this is not…

The topic I chose to discuss is racism. Racism is the act of discriminating an individual due to their race or ethnicity. Racism is a growing topic in society. The bible often speaks about how all of man is created as equal, for example Genesis 3:28 states “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Racism is a growing topic in society and as people become more aware of the topic, we are becoming more aware of the impact it is having on people and different races.…

In today’s world, it can be very difficult to survive. The economy is a disaster in most places around the globe. Countries are devastated with hunger, drought, natural disasters, crime, and many of other challenging things for a nation to overcome.
