Quinceaneras Narrative Essay

I grew up in a Mexican household filled with family, love, and warm greetings. We had many traditions within our family. I didn’t always feel like I belonged sometimes or that I was missing something. It could have been that I don’t speak Spanish as well as the rest of my family does or maybe I haven’t visited Mexico as much as they have. The traditions and culture are what brought us close together. We had family get togethers what seemed like every weekend, In reality it is more like every month. They didn’t have to be very formal at all, events like birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, Christmas, and other holidays are all things that bring families together. And we definitely went all out. Quinceaneras were so much fun for me and everyone.
The mass is usually called the mass of thanking because it allows me to thank family and show the role faith will play in my transition into adulthood. The reception is in a venue complete with a dance floor and themed decorations. My centerpieces were all handmade with beautifully crafted 6x6 wooden boxes, filled with bright pink flowers and glitter, which we picked out together at a wholesale flower place. I wanted these to look perfect, almost professional. Underneath the wooden boxes was a white lace place mat for it to sit elegantly on. I knew everything wasn't going to be extravagant, but it still meant a lot to even have the opportunity to have one as big as mine. Many are very low budget and don’t take a lot of planning. So this quinceañera was able to symbolize my family's hard work and success to get us where we are now. It begins with a grand entrance by the court including myself. There was a father daughter dance and a dance that my court and I worked so hard on. Traditions that take place at the reception usually are the presentation of the last doll and the high heel shoe exchange.
