1. Which of the following uses the widest spectrum? (a) 802.16 (b) 802.11 (c) CDMA-2000 (d) UWB
Ans: UWB

2. Which of the following is true? (a) Small-scale multipath fading is the primary driver behind wireless communication system design. (b) In the free space loss model, there is no frequency effect. (c) Data throughput in sensor networks is a bigger concern than that in mobile ad hoc networks. (d) Cross-layer design simplifies the implement of wireless systems.
Ans: (a) Small-scale multipath fading is the primary driver behind wireless communication system design.

So its just design is to break the N level PDU into sections and reassemble them in the request they were available before. The division happens at (N- 1) layer. It breaks the N level PDU into different (N-1) level PDUs. Additionally they do not need to hold a duplicate of header as it disregards the guideline of layer separation itself.

(b)Yes, every N-level PDU must hold its own header. More than one Nth layer PDU an be set inside the (N-1)th layer PDU and all the Nth layer PDU’s must have the same destination address. N-1 level is not aware of the N layer PDU and it is only a data segment for it and it also violates the principle of layer separation if the data is consolidated into single N level PDU with single N level

What are the strong aspects and weak aspects in the following paper? B. Fu, Y. Xiao, H. Deng, and H. Zeng, “A survey of cross-layer designs in wireless networks,” IEEE Comm. Surveys and Tutorials, vol. 16, pp. 110-126, First Quarter 2014.
Ans: Strong aspects:

1) In this paper,it explain the boundaries or the extends and difficulties the cross layer networks are having, like how the information sharing is done between the different layers and the problems which we sometime face when the connection between the layers is established, when there is temporary loss of connection. Moreover the paper describes how the performance and reliability can be achieved in the network by reducing the error rate, the reduced latency.

2) It describes the alternate methods that could be applied in the different layers according to the need like as the example is given in the real time video streaming the day sensitive application we could make use of the optimsation techniques by using the different frameworks which provide with alternate protocol stack and the design parameters which are different and can achieve a proper solution to the issue

Studying the seven layers of the OSI design, a decision to be taken is that the layer three, also referred to as the network layer is the one which WAN protocols operates on. The network layer carries out regular tasks as well as pinpoints end-to-end addressing and routing datagrams (Regan, 2004). There exists a unit known as brouter that some layers incorporate which works like a router and a bridge. Routers and switches work on layers 2-4 (data link layer, network layer as well as transport layer). As mentioned earlier, on layer two of the OSI model, network layer, is the place where the addressing and routing is carried out. On the transport layer of the OSI model is the place where the flow control and mistake handling works. Lastly, on layer four the synchronizations and assemblies are completed.…

In order to provide speed and reliability, large and enterprise-level networks today are typically constructed in multiple layers. They are the access layer, also called the network edge layer, the aggregation or distribution layer; and the network core layer. The access layer is usually a mesh of network switches, linked to other switches in the aggregation layer, which in turn is linked to the core.…

A protocol data unit (PDU) is an open-system interconnection (OSI) term used in telecommunications that refers to a group of information added or removed by a layer of the OSI model. Each layer in the model uses the PDU to communicate and exchange information, which can only be read by the peer layer on the receiving device and is then handed over to next upper layer after stripping.…

In a lot of cases exactly one protocol data unit in layer N is encapsulated in a PDU at layer (N-1). It is also possible to break one N-level PDU into multiple (N-1)-level PDUs (segmentation) or to group multiple N-level PDUs into one (N-1)-level PDU (blocking).…

Deliverable 1 - A PDU (Protocol Data Unit) is an important term related to the initial four layers of the OSI model. In Layer 2 it contains the frame, in layer 3 it contains a packet, and in layer 4 it is a segment. Layer 5 contains the data. The PDU has four field’s destination access point, source service point, control field and information field. The source where Wireshark retrieved the data from was www.cnn.com…

The third layer, network, obtains the function that serves the purpose of switching, routing, forwarding, and creating paths in order to transmit data between nodes. It also has the function and purpose to handle error(s), inter-networking, provides control in areas of congestion, and sequencing packets. Transport as the fourth layer serves as a form of a management tool of information flow between network…

A couple of important things to keep in mind when dealing with PDH, first, each point must be accounted for where the circuit is multiplexed. The PDH hierarchy does not allow a T-0 to a T-3 line. In order for this to occur, T-0 must pass through T-1 before jumping to a T-2 line. The reason is that the signals at each level are multiplexed differently. The same requirement goes for the opposite. A T-2 line must pass through a T-1 line before jumping to a T-0 line. The hypothetical scenario aforementioned could lead to costly equipment and installation due to the complexity for a business if they decide to go that route.…
