Quantum Theory and Postmodern

To know what effect if any quantum theory has played on postmodern ideas, we must first know what quantum theory is. "Quantum Theory is the most successful set of idea ever devised by human beings. They Quantum Theory explains the periodic chart of elements and why chemical reactions take place. It gives accurate predictions about the operation of lasers and microchips, the stability of DNA and how alpha particles tunnel out of the nucleus." (Barlett) What is being study is the smallest part of our existence, the atom. " The problems of language her are really serious. We wish to speak in some way about the structure of the atom. But we can speak about atoms in ordinary language." (Durham) Quantum theory develops equations to explain the very abstract questions scientist pose, things that the average person does not even think about. We being with the know and explore the unknown, eventually making it the known as well. "The laws of human thought coincide with laws which regulate the succession of impressions we receive from the world around us. Similarly, pure logic allows us to penetrate the mechanism of the latter. Which means it is of fundamental importance that the outside world be independent and absolute." (Randall) Along with Quantum Theory comes Quantum Optics; including quantum computing, lasers, communication and quantum cryptology. (Cox) Lasers have led to the everyday items we use CDs, DVDs and fiber optics. From renting a movie, to listening to our favorite artist or downloading information from the web, all of these play a part in the dissemination of information. It is a form of communication that owes itself, if even in the smallest part to a Quantum Theory. We may not understand it all, but we have been reward with technological advances. We have been touched by developments in the areas of computers, medicine and space. Whether it is Einstein 's Theory of Relativity , Black holes, time travel, email, or the next phase in cell phones or computer technology or x-ray; each new development new words and phrases are added to our language. (Garvin) As Quantum Theory develops answers to new and even more complex questions that will arise in the future our ways of thinking will continue. It almost seems as if it is human nature is to explore , accept a challenge and take an occasional risk. As long as there are individuals willing to do this with their ideas we will continue this postmodern trend. Taking from the know and adding in the unknown has its risks and rewards. Just as we learn about the past to better understand the future.

Post Modernism, on the other hand, is ‘after modernism’, and in many ways postmodernism constitutes an attack on modernist claims about the existence of truth and value, claims that come from the European enlightenment of the 18th century. In disputing past assumptions postmodernists generally display a preoccupation with the inadequacy of language as a mode of communication. One such famous postmodernist theorist is French philosopher Jacques…

Increasing our knowledge of Physics, using the scientific method to make observations and test hypotheses is essential to unlocking the secrets of the universe. Energy is one of the most fundamental elements of the universe. Throughout history, man has endeavored to expose, understand, and explain how and why things work. This drive to expand our understanding eventually led to the development of the scientific method and what is commonly considered to be the king of the sciences, Physics. The effects of energy on the physical world are of great interest to Physicists. The scientific method was developed during the seventeenth century. It is based on collaborative efforts of the great scientists and mathematicians who lived during that period such as Francis Bacon, Galileo Galilee, Johannes Kepler, and Rene' Descartes. These men realized that true knowledge must be based on empirical observation and verified by experimentation. Recently, physicists have been searching for a unifying theory to bring all of the fields of Physics together under a single umbrella theory expressed as a short equation. This so called unifying field theory will usher in a new era in physics and greatly increase our understanding of the workings of the universe Physics is the king of science, and Sir Issac Newton is the king of Physics. Physics deals with matter, motion, force, and energy.…

Scientific advances in the past from philosophers and scientists who were rejected in their times for their foreign ways of thinking have sculpted the society of today. It was once thought impossible to travel to space, to set foot on the moon, to explore Mars; however, because of the perseverance of early scientists like Dalton with the atom and Newton’s physics, Lance Armstrong was able to set foot on the moon in the twentieth-century, and more recently, NASA has sent probes to Mars for exploration. The incredible knowledge gained from these expeditions…

What is out there? How did we get here? What is the world made of? These simple questions still baffle scientists today. The story for the search to answer those questions is the story of science. The history of science has made the greatest impact on the world and continues to evolve. When people understand it, it changes how we see ourselves and how we see the world around us. It has been shaped by natural phenomenon and things that have happened inside the laboratory and out. The most brilliant people with the most brilliant ideas grew up to accomplish the greatest things that no one could understand, but their contributions to science and technology impacted everyone. I believe that we should grasp the practical and theoretical approaches that led to the creation of the modern world so we can understand the utility of it in the twenty first century.…
