Pursuing My Pre-College Neuroscience Degree
I have been interested in the inner workings of the human mind for years. In the summer prior to my junior year, I took a pre-college neuroscience course at Emory University, which only strengthened my interest in neuroscience. I hope to research in neuroscience following college. I believe that majoring in chemistry will aid me in finding a career in research, while majoring in neuroscience will aid me in the field for obvious reasons. At USC, I hope to pursue my academic interests by pursuing these majors and focusing on my academic success with my future in mind. I plan to take a rigorous, but not overwhelming, course load and devote a reasonable amount of time to studying. I also intend to enjoy the arts and activities on campus to become

Samuel Clemens advised “Go to bed early, get up early-this is wise”, and by appreciating the soundness of his words, rarely, if ever, do I find myself in the chaos of late morning traffic. By accomplishing little everyday small tasks such as getting up early in time for a healthy breakfast or studying in motivating environments allows me to be extremely productive and effective as a student at the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC). For the past seven months, I’ve held an environmental specialist internship at the Santa Rosa Water Department that goes hand-in-hand with my dedication and efforts at the junior college. Over the past two years, it has been my pleasure to participate in courses and to become a part of the SRJC culture. I am motivated and eager to continue to develop a strong background of calculus, general chemistry, biology and critical thinking, and expanding physics, engineering and organic chemistry. My overarching education goal is to receive a bachelors of science in environmental engineering or hydrologic science. My top three universities of choice are UC Berkley and Cal Poly for their environmental engineering programs and UC Santa Barbara for hydrologic…

My interest in pharmacy school did not happen overnight, but it was a process of learning and discovering. At the age of 30 with a son, a family, and a full-time job, I decided to go back to school and do something entirely different from my previous degree*. Intrigued by the science behind medicine, fascinated by the mechanism of drugs, and motivated by the prestige and rewarding profession of a health care professional, I have chosen medical field to restart my career. I wanted to be a medical doctor, a dentist, or a pharmacist, so I majored in Chemistry.…

When people hear “pre-medicine,” they think of majors like biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, health sciences, and other popular majors. I chose chemistry as my major, not only because I wanted to stand out not blend in, but also because I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I have always performed better in chemistry than in biology. I prefer challenges and I love the way chemistry challenges me. I am going into freshmen year with the knowledge of the level of difficulty that my major encompasses. I need to remain focused and work hard in order to succeed and achieve a solid gap of at least 3.6 for admission to medical school.…

The academic pathway I will follow begins with an Associate in Science in the Traditional nursing program from Valencia College and I plan to graduate at the end of the fall semester in 2019. Then I plan to transfer to UCF to earn my Bachelor’s of Science in nursing in the ASN to BSN program. Graduation for BSN will be after the fall semester in 2022. After I achieve my BSN I will begin working for two years and then I will attend graduate school at the University of South Florida in the Nurse Anesthesia program in Spring of 2025 and completion will be after the spring semester of 2027. This goal is important to me because it paves the road to the future of my life. After about 20 years of school work in my entire life, all the headaches, stress, essays, and projects, that relate to school will all come to an end. Throughout the journey of academics, I will derive my motivation with mental self-questioning of “Where am I headed?” Focus is one of my strengths that keep me on my path and never let me forget my purpose. Bad habits, such as procrastination, will work against me in school. Taking the initiative by using an agenda, and putting away distractions will allow me to overcome my…

Academically, the school system has always provided me the tools so that I could learn, but outside the traditional high school classroom, there is a myriad of opportunities where knowledge can be obtained. The summer before my senior year in high school the opportunity to take classes at the University of Louisville was bequeathed upon me. My parents guided me into possibly taking core content material classes, for example, math or science. However, there was a wide range of classes in which I could partake in, but the ones which caught my attention were in the Sociology department. Although my parents were not thrilled with my decision of taking leisurely courses which were possibly not going to count towards my future major in college, I felt it was the intelligent decision.…

As of now I have a better understanding about what most of the concentrations are, and which ones I would enjoy and succeed in. The ones that stand out to me the most are marketing, accounting, and CIS. I know for certain that I like marketing, and always have, so this is most likely going to be my concentration. I think accounting sounds like a ton of fun and something I would really enjoy, but what turns me off to it is the fact that I would have to obtain so many more credits before I could take the CPA test, and I’m not sure that I want to be in school for that long yet. As for CIS I love the fact that there is always a good job market, but I’m uncertain of my ability to do well in this concentration.…

The brain is a very interesting and complex thing; it controls everything we do. It's how we see, hear, taste, move, think and even how we behave. A neuropsychologist is someone that studies how the processes of the brain play a role in the way we behave. Some diseases or disorders such as Alzheimer's or Huntington's affect areas of the brain that influence our mood or thinking. After reading the article "Choosing a College Major,” I feel more at ease with the decisions I will be making concerning my major and future career. I was surprised to learn that most people will change careers around four or five times throughout their life. The textbook reading has helped broaden my viewpoint on my major and career. This book has showed me that one major won’t always lead you to one particular job and that traditional reasoning could impede my career planning. By using the chaos theory, I can consider what I know, what I can’t know, and what I can learn in order to make reasonable decisions in my life. The activities throughout this book have helped me narrow down key themes, skills, interests, values, and other important areas of my life.…

I am striving to do the best I can within my first year of studies and come out of program with all the useful knowledge I was given. One of the biggest long term goals I have is to specialize in a certain field of radiology after I graduate from the radiology program. Choosing a College Major

Selecting a major has been the most difficult challenge. It is difficult to comprehend that selecting a major means I will have to concentrate on that field of study with strong commitment and passion, with little hope of ever changing that major. It seems that once I determine an occupation of interest, another opportunity grabs my attention, and once again, I am in a state of confusion. I have learned that a major should associate your love, talents, and desire for success in that subject. Students should base their selection on their interests, abilities, and goals, but also what you’ll need to be happy in the future. While it would be nice to have an interest in one of the highest paying college majors, it’s also important to choose a college major that will ultimately lead to a career you want in a place you want to live. There is a major process future students should choose, or not choose, to follow. By following this process the student is more likely going to find a major best suited for them.…
