In a resource I found while researching Pro Quest, is from John Hobkins University Press. What Is College For? The Purpose of Higher Education. Ellen Condiffe Lagemann and Harry Lewis (Eds.). What Is College For? The Public Purpose of Higher Education. New York: Teachers College Press, 2012. vii + 168 pp. Paper: $30.95. ISBN-13: 978-0-8077-5273-3. The author is comparing Salaries for many coaches, chief administrators and some out the athletic department. Yes the author has credibility . It is a couple of years old and has been read by professors and colleges. The author makes a good point in the margin gap in salaries for similar higher education careers. Here is an example of one of the comparisons. On September 4, 2012, Monte Burke (2012) contended in a Forbes article that Nick Saban, the University of Alabama's football coach, was not only the most powerful coach in America regardless of sport but also the highest paid in college football at $5.3 million a year. In comparison, President Robert E. Witt, the highest paid employee at the University of Alabama outside of the athletic department, makes approximately ten times less than Saban at $512,000 per year (according to Burke .)References References
