Purpose Of A Letter To College
The purpose of this letter was for “S” to have a casual conversation with her parents who just came to visit her the previous weekend on her college campus about how college is going for her socially and academically. S talks about the football game her parents and she went to together when they came to visit and how crazy the student section was at the game. She refers to the student section as “pretty wild”, and makes a joke about using her parents season pass tickets so she can sit away from all the “nonsense” of the student section. You can tell in the letter that this was a casual conversation by her use of diction and word choice as well as her sentence format and use of exclamation marks. Additionally, her conversation with her parents didn’t have much of an overall theme to it, it was just like she was having a conversation with them at home about anything and everything that was on her mind. …show more content…
Her basic message to her parents back home was that her grades in her accounting class and other classes were fine and that she was doing fine. The letter to her parents is from the messages I have sent my grandmother and grandfather back home over the past few weeks since I arrived on campus: just keeping them both updated and to tell them I love and miss them. Another way of saying the letters from me to my grandparents are to tell them that they do not need to worry about me because I am doing just fine at college and keeping up with everything. Additionally, the letters that I send to my grandmother and grandfather I believe are the same as to what S is doing to her parents, just letting them know she’s

This letter is to tell you that I ( Erin Ellison) deserve an A (91.5%) in your class. I deserve this grade because I have put forth my best effort, completed nearly all my assignments on time, have received good grades on those assignments, and those grades are a direct reflection of the effort I have put into each one of those assignments. Another reason I have given this grade to myself is I regularly attend classes and try to take part, and not only attend class but be engaged with the class. The last reason is I redo any of my assignments that I do not get a good enough grade on; although not only to improve my grade, but also to learn from the mistakes I made. Currently, I have an 88.8 percent in your class, so for the rest of the…

I have walked out of blackberry fields with my fingers bleeding from being poked by the thorns, exhausted and thirsty from the burning heat, and hard labor. Till this day I remember every minute of those nine hours, thinking, how were my parents able to work like this their whole lives. They showed me how hard the life of an immigrant is and because of that I am who I am and I want to become someone who achieves anything I put mind into. I started working at the age of ten, with my parents in the fields and from then on it was a routine every summer, I knew where I would be working once I was out of school in summer. At the age of thirteen I started working at a cannery in line with other women where I would take out all rotten, sunburned, and stems from the moving belt standing for eight to ten hours a day. We worked inside a freezer, it was freezing cold that in twenty minutes I wouldn’t be able to feel my hands. I had enough in my late teens, that’s when I decided my life had to change, I couldn’t stay like this forever, I needed to finish high school and soon after go for an associate’s degree and find me a better job, something that I enjoyed and knew could financially benefit me. Neither of my parents had the opportunity to attend college, and faced many financial struggles in their lives because of this. They were never allowed to find a good paying job with benefits because they didn’t have a degree or any knowledge besides working outside in the fields like every other immigrant was used to. I know they are hard workers but I didn’t want to stay like that for the rest of my life. I have two children of my own and I want them to know that their mom wanted to continue going to school and wants to make her life much easier by a getting a job that she loves, enjoys and has benefits for her and her family. My…
