Purity Of Co2 Case Study
The purity of CO2 in a urea plant is strongly influenced by the absorption process, starting from operation temperature and pressure until the concentration of the absorbent material. All operating conditions must be maintained and adjusted to reach optimal condition which is 99% (v/v) of the purity of CO2. Therefore, it is necessary to have a model that can be used to obtain optimal operating conditions in the process of absorption. The purpose of this study is to develop a model for the calculation of the CO2 purity at the Main CO2 Removal (MCR) unit in PT. Pupuk Iskandar Muda-2 (PIM-2) of ammonia plant in the Lhokseumawe of Aceh Province, and to get the optimum operating parameters to obtain the desired purity of CO2. Besides, the growing number of motor vehicles has also resulted in the same problem, namely the increasing pollution caused by gases outed from motor vehicles. Some of the most pollutant gases that play an important role in the rise of air pollution level are SOx, NOx, H2S and CO2. The pollutant gases generally found in urban and industrial areas. However, the main drawback of this solvent is the slow rate of reaction with CO2. Typically, MDEA is considered as ideal solvent to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) selectively from the gas stream but it leaves a large amount of CO2 (Polasek and Iglesias, 1992). To overcome the problem, an activator with extremely high reaction speed level with CO2 is used which in this case is piperazine (PZ). PZ is added to the liquid MDEA with a special proportion of 35-45% by weight of MDEA and 3-5% by weight of PZ. This solvent mixture is called active MDEA or a-MDEA. PZ acts as an enhancer to MDEA when reacting with CO2, while a-MDEA maintains the pure benefit of MDEA to remain chemically stable and require low heat regeneration (Erga et al, 1995; Freeman et al,

    The objective of this project is to optimize the preparation of modified Calcium Oxide (CaO) to capture CO2 by carbonation through hydration of ethanol/water. The carbonation reaction is the basis for CO2 capture systems. However CaO as regenerable CO2 sorbents in industrial processes is limited by the rapid decay of the carbonation conversion with the number of cycle carbonation/ calcination. Therefore Calcium based sorbents have attracted renewed attention as possible sorbents for cyclic calcination/carbonation processes due to their potential for regeneration and effective technique for capturing CO2 from combustion processes. The carbonation conversion for CaO modified with ethanol/water solution is greater than for CaO hydrated with distilled water and is much higher than that for calcined limestone. (Li et all). This work covers and presents a multi experimental test of preparing the modified CaO through hydration of water/ethanol by manipulate various parameter combination. The experiments were conducted using a modified furnace to permit the flow of CO2 for carbonation process and calcium oxide. Then, the carbonation conversion is calculated which signify the effectiveness of CO2 capture and the optimum parameter to produce the highest carbonation conversion is identified based on approach of Taguchi Method , the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and the analysis of variance (ANOVA).
