Day nurseries deliver care, play and education for children from about 2 months to 5 years. They are normally open all day between 8am and 6pm and will be registered with Ofsted. 3 and 4 year olds can access a fund to get 15 hours /week for 38 weeks per year free. There is no guarantee of a funded place and the nursery must be registered with the scheme. If a parent is on a low income and possibly receiving benefits then they may be eligible for a funded early education place. Day nurseries are great for giving children a variety of organised activities and for fostering important social skills, like sharing. The day nurseries who cater from babies to four year olds (in separate rooms and with separate staff) can offer continuity of care for children and parents.…

Recently, attention has been given to plans for improving the public schools by allowing parents to choose where their children attend school through a school voucher system. The education voucher system exists when a government provides payment to families that allow their children to attend a private or public school of their choice. The payment is in the form of a voucher that can be given directly to the parents of the child, or indirectly to the school of choice. The purpose of the voucher systems is “to increase parental choice, promote competition and allow lower income families access to private education” (West 1997, p.83). The implementation of the voucher system would force poorly run schools and inadequate teachers to improve their…

Should a child's wealth determine whether or not he or she can get a quality education? Funding for public schools is an enormous issue that affects many people. A major issue is unequal funding throughout the country. There are various reasons for these differences, from the governmental level to the lack of public support. There is a need to re-work the current formula used by states to determine how school funds are disbursed and also to increase public support for education funding. After all, whether a child is wealthy or poor, it is in everyone's interests to ensure that America's future generations are both skilled and educated. Limited funds for public schools have primarily affected the poor and have put them at a disadvantage in getting a quality education.…

Schafer Elem School identified the need to evaluate the reading curriculum for grades K-2 due to only 63% of students needs were met. This resulted in the decline of reading scores for students in the third grade. Across the board the school needs to focus on the reading curriculum and instruction as indicated in the SIP. The school is not making AYP in reading as compared to making the AYP in mathematics, clearly defining the need to focus on reading instruction. Schafer Elementary school would benefit from focusing on the reading aspect of instruction in all subject area to increase student achievement on standardized tests. Within the hiring process the administration needs to focus on those who are certified in ESOL education. Classical Economists Classical economics refers to the studies done by a group of economists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They included Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Jeremy Bentham, Thomas Malthus and John Stuart Mill who believed that the pursuit of individual self-interest produced the greatest possible economic benefits for the whole society. Their studies were primarily concerned with the way markets and market economies work. They developed theories about the dynamics of economic growth and began with the publication in 1776 of Adam Smith 's monumental work, The Wealth of Nations which identified land, labor and capital as the three factors of production and the major contributors to a nation 's wealth. In Smith 's view, the ideal economy is a self-regulating market system that automatically satisfies the economic needs of the populace. It stressed economic freedom and promoted ideas such as laissez-faire and free competition. He described the market mechanism as an ‘invisible hand’ that leads all individuals, in pursuit of their own self-interests to produce the greatest benefit for society as a whole.…
