This form should be used to record your reflections as you progress through your qualification. You should link your reflections to reading, principles, theories and professional value as relevant. Analysis of challenges that I faced in unit/task: Although I teach students every time I work, I only teach one to one and I found it hard to apply what I do and have learnt from individual tuition to a classroom setting. Pttls is designed for classroom teaching and the on-going qualification (PGCE PCET) requires me to teach to a minimum of 8 students at a time, so I felt that teaching one to one is not as ‘valid’ as a classroom setting. However, I do have to apply the principles of inclusion and diversity to my tuition, as I teach students with disabilities. | How I dealt with this, and why I took this approach: As I found it difficult to write this essay, I chose to do it in stages, over a number of weeks, gradually adding to it as my understanding grew. | What went well and why: As I currently teach three days a week, I was able to apply the essay to my own teaching practice. As I teach students with disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health problems, it is crucial that my teaching style is inclusive and differentiated. Each person represents unique challenges and learning objectives and I need to tailor my teaching approach, pace, delivery and learning resources accordingly. I need to devise strategies for each student, so I was able to draw on this for the assignment. | What I need to do to improve and how I plan to do this: In future, instead of getting paralysis, or worrying that what I am writing about is not valid, I need to use what knowledge I have, back it up with theory and be confident that this is what’s needed. It would be better to get an essay in on time, than delay submitting it due to worry that it isn’t ‘good enough’. | Learner signature: Date:

Trick #1 Trick #2 Trick #3 NEVER REVISE. Pick Your Words Poorly. Give It Horrible Structure. How to Write a Really Crappy Essay While my students teach me new ways each year, I have become something of an authority after over a decade of reading hundreds annually. Go ahead... Ask me how many paragraphs you want it to be. Nothing says how little you care like trying to find out the minimum amount of work before you pick up your pen. The question alone almost assures me that your essay will suck. It shows that you are not trying to answer the question, but calculating how soon you can put your pen down. I am happy to strike a deal. You write as little as you can, and I will reward you with the minimum score. When I do suggest a structure, be strong; resist. What do I know? I am your teacher, the one that probably wrote the assignment, the one that will grade the assignment. Revert to five paragraph structure whenever possible.…

In my first essay on identity, I felt very comfortable, and I even thought that was easy, except for the thesis, in which I spent a little bit more than two hours. The rest was easy, but I did not understand the assignment and I failed my purpose of writing because I did not have a clear purpose. My second essay on community was better. The thesis statement was clear, I was more specific, but there were not stronger connections between my paragraphs and my thesis. Consequently, my evidence was unstructured and unclear. Then, in my third essay on competition, I did not add transitions in my paragraphs and I did not preserve the logical flow of the story. My fourth essay on Romance, was my favorite, my ideas were clear in my mind but not on my paper; the thesis was long and lacked of clarity to support my assertions. Next, my fourth essay on entertainment, I jumped from one idea to other without sticking to my thesis and my position was not clear. Finally, in my last essay on nature, what I feel was the worst of my essays; I used an assumption very difficult to illustrate and I misunderstood the assumption which leaded to lack of coherence and unity.…

Writing essays have always been a challenge for me. I am from Ecuador, my native language is Spanish and, I came to the United States three years ago. With the passage of the time, I have learned to talk in English, but learning to write in English has been much harder for me over these three years. However, I have been noticing some progress in my writing in different ways: Idea generation, structuring the essay, and learning to give good supporting evidence have been some of the biggest improvements I have made in my writing in this last semester.…

People with severe disabilities are often and unfortunately defined by their disability. When society makes preconceived notions about people with severe disabilities, we refer to it as disability spread (p. 3, Brown, Fredda and Snell, Martha E., 2011). Creating barriers between those that are severely disabled and those that are not is more disabling not only to the persons being excluded but also to those who are missing opportunities to build relationships with people who have severe disabilities. Inclusive education has promoted equity, opportunity, and social justice to all students, which can benefit all who are involved (p. 5, Brown, Fredda and Snell, Martha E., 2011). I must add, that the working conditions of an inclusion/reverse-inclusion teacher are challenging and stressful, but can also be rewarding. IDEA has put in place 6 principles in order to ensure parent-professional partnership when regarding the individual with a disability:…
