PTTLS Assignment 001: Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Lifelong Learning – Guidance Document

The following guidance document contains important information relating to the key aspects of Legislation, Regulatory requirements and Codes of practice used within the Lifelong Learning Sector. Also within this document is information and advice on the boundaries between the teaching role and other professional bodies, the point of referral to be able to meet the needs of the learner and ways to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others.

Key Aspects of Legislation
The six main Acts of Legislation we must take into account in the teaching role and environment are as follows:
The ‘Health & Safety at work Act 1974’ - The Act places a general duty to ensure so far as is reasonably practicable the health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees and clients. Employers must ensure that they provide a safe place of employment and a safe working environment, and that control measures are in place to minimise or is possible eliminate the risk of harm to any person. A Venue Risk Assessment must be completed prior to any course commencement and a Tutor Risk Assessment must be completed on the first session and kept on file for the whole duration of the course and amended appropriately following any changes. Failure to comply with this Act including, employers, employees, trainees, self employed persons etc can result in them facing prosecution charges.
The ‘Equality Act 2010’ – The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. It replaced previous anti-discrimination laws with a single Act, making the law easier to understand and strengthening protection in some situations. It sets out the different ways in which it’s unlawful to treat someone. These include things like age, disability, race, sex, pregnancy,

    Working as an operations trainer for Airline Services Ltd (ASL), my job is to travel around to many of the UK’s major airports to deliver training and development of front line staff. It is of huge importance that when delivering training, it is specific to the task that the learner is expected to carry out on a daily basis and at the same time gives them the opportunity to question and discuss aspects of their role openly and not to feel in doubt, criticised or intimidated when voicing their opinion. It is crucial that all staff comply with ASL’s company values of: Quality, Reliability & Performance, (ASL website ref) especially myself during the delivery of training as these values filter throughout the entire company and can make all the difference when securing customer contracts and meeting expectations.…
