Psychology of Suicide

Research on the Psychology of Suicide 1 out of 3 people commit suicide each year. That’s not many you may say, but in my opinion it’s more than enough. From our youth to our older generations, suicide rates are rising. Unfortunately, no one knows why. There are so many potential reasons different scientists and psychologists give us, but believe it or not, the only people aware of the true reason is the victim. The economy isn’t the best right now; houses are getting foreclosed more than ever, maybe that’s the reason. A high possibility one may say, but every suicide victim isn’t a homeowner. I believe all suicide victims have more than one thing in common. Obviously, they have the guts to carry out such an act, but I feel it’s much deeper and psychological than that. I’m not a major in neuroscience, but I feel that that’s where the problem lies. I also believe that most suicide victims may have similar lifestyle factors. Suicide isn’t hereditary by any means; it’s not carried in genes, it doesn’t run in any families. Suicide is a decision one makes with him or herself. In 2010, San Diego Chargers Linebacker Junior Seau committed suicide. When the legendary NFL linebacker retired for good in 2010, he seemed set for life: supremely wealthy, beloved across the league, a hero in his hometown of San Diego. Two years later, he was dead. On a lonely morning in a big empty house, Seau shot himself through the chest. It's no longer a secret how much damage pro football can do to the men who play it, but never before had we witnessed it destroy a genuine superstar not until Junior Seau. My belief is that suicide victims don’t want to die; they just don’t know another way to escape the reality of their problems. It’s a given that anyone who commits suicide is stressed or depressed in some type of manner. Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some type of way. As citizens of such a broken society,
