Psychology and Pure Entertainment Purposes
Entertainment
It is a known fact that there is a great diversity of entertainment options. There are many forms of entertainment targeted towards population for different purposes such as educational, informative, or pure entertainment purposes. To begin to talk we would say that as everything, entertainment may be looked whether as a positive or negative thing. Of course, opinions about this topic can be many, depending on the angle we might be looking at it.
On the one hand, entertainment is seen as a good thing for society. Referring to television for example and taking the subject from an educational point of view, there are several channels which are mainly about nature and even can provide information about physical phenomena affecting our Earth, things which can be found interesting mostly for children. Nevertheless, television has become a bad influence in the opinion of many people, as there is a lot of perversion and violent things they would prefer not to see.
On the other hand, we could take the psychological field. Referring to this topic, entertainment seems to be very positive and relaxing, for example watching television when we get home after a long period of working. It certainly can help to open up our minds and stay calm for a while. However, when it comes to adolescents this can become a bad habit and abusing of its benefits can keep them apart from their obligations and their study.
To sum up, I would say that we all enjoy the occasional escape from reality; but more and more entertainment is shoving its way into our world. It’s everywhere we look, we are forced to deviate from the path it leads us down. Entertainment could be a good aspect in our society if we learn how to take control of its advantages and disadvantages.

Whether it’s the Hollywood blockbusters, the television sitcoms, the young adult novels or the music pumping through your speaker, entertainment is everywhere, serving as the portal to the world around us. Neal Gabler’s assertion that entertainment has the capacity to ruin our society holds some truth, but I believe that it is more beneficial than detrimental. The impression that entertainment will bequeath on an individual depends on the intention and extent in which it is utilized.…

Watching television can be educational in both a positive and negative way. In reality shows that teens from the age thirteen and up watch, teens are influenced in a negative way. They see adults acting chaotic; cursing, fighting, screaming, etc. in public areas. This gives people a negative outlook on the world. Visual entertainment media is a part of everyday life, anywhere from cellphones, television, internet, newspaper, etc. All of the forms of visual entertainment media have helped shaped America, also the culture and values that have developed over the years. The most common visual entertainment media form that has shaped, influenced, the culture and values in America is cable television. Cable television covers so many different forms within itself, news channels, religious channels, debate channels, and different types of local television programs. Each of these channels carries their own message, with entertainment values that are viewed by the person watching the program. Many forms of visual entertainment carry a negative social influence message, self-education is important on these types of visual entertainment in order to determine what best fits your personal situation. If there are, guidelines that are set on, what type of visual entertainment are acceptable, internet access, cell phone access, and television channels. Than the amount of negative influence, someone may be subjected to can be cut down dramatically, giving the opportunity for positive experiences to be put in its place. The idea of visual entertainment media is to help spread education, and social entertainment purposes. One way to ensure that this is the experience that is shared is to limit what you make available to your family and how much is acceptable. I think that it is very easy for adolescent minds to be subjected to influence, both positive and negative depending on what their social surrounding support frequently. If a child is exposed to violent, sexual, or death filled entertainment, it is more likely for them to incorporate these things into their everyday social environment. This affects their social behavior and attitudes to not only peers, but also any given situation. The influences these entertainment types have can either become a person or just be a part of everyday…

Whether we understand it or not, the entertainment we enjoy has a profound effect on how we see the world. Entertainment not only shows societal values, but helps shape them as we embrace what hear and see as normal and acceptable. Entertainment can also impact our emotions as a well crafted piece of art creates thoughts and emotions. In Fences, Death of a Salesman, The Great Gatsby, Invisible Man and A Streetcar Named Desire, sports and entertainment are used to show the lack of opportunity as well as characters’ hopes and fears.…

What Gabler fails to do is define entertainment. What may be considered entertaining for Taylor Swift may have been considered boring by Albert Einstein. And what may be fun for Nicki Minaj may have been considered a waste of time by Gregor Mendel. Different people seek different forms of entertainment, although throughout any form, as with anything in life, there is an upside and a downside. Music can be relaxing and soothing; but play it too loud and it harms your hearing. Watch the History channel and learn a thing or two, or watch Jersey Shore and become influenced by their outlandish behavior.…

    Children Screen Time Essay

When children focus more about their time playing games or watching TV, they spend less time being active and maintaining a healthy energetic body. This inactivity can also lead to obesity and overeating just by simply sitting down and taking in some pleasure. “A more recent analysis that summarized the findings of this study and seven similar studies found that for every two hours spent watching TV, the risk of developing diabetes, developing heart disease, and early death increased by 20, 15, and 13 percent respectively” (Harvard T.H Chan 3). When children are given the resources to spend their day playing games online or to view anything entertaining, it decreases the chances of them preferring to do anything else. Their health risks increase because they are consuming more than what their body is burning off. This source of entertainment makes children less likely to engage in activities outside or to play with cards and blocks indoors. “Most of the teenagers I see have insomnia or disordered sleep because they have a screen in their face at all hours. Many kids are not learning playground politics because they don’t go outside. There is much less independent, creative play” (O’Connell…

I grew up in a household where video games were a privilege that I had to earn. When I had done all my homework and chores, I was allowed to play video games for an hour a day. As I grew older my parents thought I could make my own choices and did not limit the amount of time I spent playing video games. Many people today think that video games cause children to become couch potatoes, act dumb, and be rude. As a young child, my parents taught me that responsibilities come before the reward. That is why I have a different opinion of video games. I believe that video games can be beneficial to individuals; however, there are limitations. They help children deal with cancer, improve literacy skills, gain educational skills, and stay fit, but individuals should be cautious about the genre of the game and the amount of play time. When these precautions are taken, video games can be a helpful tool for many.…

In this day and age it is difficult to gauge whether the pros out way the cons because of all the different ways to access visual entertainment. When I was a kid, we had 10 channels and cartoons were really only on in the mornings and early afternoons. Now cartoons are on television all the time and some have questionable content. There are literally hundreds of channels to choose from; each providing their own brand of entertainment whether it be good natured or inappropriate. Now a person can view television shows, news, movies, or videos from sites such as YouTube, from a computer, cell phone, or Ipad allowing limitless access to different forms of visual entertainment. Although there are positive things about this expansion of visual media such as keeping the public better informed in our nation’s and world events, public and political opinions, and different ways of expressing one’s art, the downside is that it is more difficult to monitor what our children are exposed to on television and the internet. So even though we have made great technological advancements in the past 20 years, I am reminded of a statement by the actor Jeff Goldblum in the 1993 blockbuster film Jurassic Park: “It should not be whether or not we could, but whether or not we should.” Meaning that just because we can expose ourselves constantly with different forms of visual entertainment does not mean we…

Video games are being played everywhere, but do they hold value? People use video games for entertainment, however that might not be the only benefit gamers receive. Most people will look at games as a reason children act out, in a small manner or in some cases, horrendous acts. There are plenty of studies on the negative effects of video games, not as many to why these games should matter, but playing these games may give many positive effects.
