In 1948, John Nash attended Princeton where he met his best friend Charles Herman. An unusual friendship begins between the two, but we later discover that Charles Herman is a figment of Nash's delusions which emerged to help him cope with the stress and anxiety of his competitive surrounding and pressure to publish an original mathematical idea. This is the first sign of a split reality in Nash's "beautiful" mind. The second occurs after Nash returns from the Pentagon after being invited to crack encrypted Russian communications. He was able to decipher the encryption mentally, which astonished the other code breakers in the room. With a feeling of disinterest in his duties at MIT, Nash's second illusion comes to life. William Parcher from the US Department of Defense "recruits" Nash to decipher communications of the Russians hidden in public magazines and newspapers.…

“A Beautiful Mind” is a movie that was based off a true story of the Nobel Prize winner John Nash, who suffered with schizophrenia upon entering Princeton University. Schizophrenia is not a personality disorder, but the splitting of the mind, which can cause people to hear voices, but will not change into multiple personalities. Nash’s symptoms went unnoticed during his college career, which promoted the disease to worsen over time because of the lack of treatment. In the movie Nash’s schizophrenia is easily classified with the positive symptoms of a schizophrenic such as, withdrawal from peers, hallucinations, and paranoia; these are only some of the symptoms being portrayed in the movie. Although the movie did not give a complete analysis of a schizophrenic, this film did an excellent job at conveying the daily sufferings a person with schizophrenia endured in their everyday life.…

Based on what I have watched from the movie of “A Beautiful Mind”, which is a biography based on the true life story of a math prodigy, John Forbes Nash Jr., is an incomparable math genius student from Princeton University who definitely amazed the minds of people he meets. For me, he is an extraordinary person having a broad and an odd imagination as well. Unfortunately, he suffers from a mental illness called schizophrenia which he doesn’t even know himself. His friends find him weird or likely a nerd, but still they try to make friends with him. Nash tried to communicate and interact with them but in the end, it’s like there’s something that bothers him, some kind of paranoia that leads him to stay away and find himself alone and unconsciously creating things that aren’t really there (hallucination) and believing things that aren’t really true (delusion). Like for example, an imaginary friend which is known to be Charles (his room mate) and Charles’ niece. It’s odd but I strongly believe that all the things kept from his subconscious mind releases through Charles and other delusions his mind creates.…

Pope Francis' visit to the Philippines from January 15 to 19, 2015, is the first state and pastoral visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines. Though I’m not a catholic I was deeply affected that he chose the Philippines to be one of the countries he would visit. After going to Sri Lanka he went off to our country riding the plane to Villamor Air Base. A lot of Filipino citizens and media are waiting for the Pope’s arrival at the airport. The streets are filled and surrounded by the people and policemen for security purposes. I was happy to know that the crowd is well coordinated to the government. Even though I was just watching from our television I really got excited to see him because it is a rare opportunity that a Pope from Vatican would go here. When I heard the news that the airplane has landed already I was very glad because it landed safely. I did see Pope Francis smiled and looked at the window from the live telecast. This is a heartwarming moment for me especially to the people and media who are waiting for him at the airport. I said to myself that they are very lucky because they could see him personally and the government officials who have the opportunity to have held hands with him and breathing the same air as he is. He putted a big smile on my face when he walked through the red carpet and the two children who are from the orphanage welcomed him. He rode the popemobile and passed by the streets to wave at the large crowd of people who are waiting for him. How could he have that kind of energy when he supposed to be tired from the flight? Pope Francis really has this different kind of vibe and aura around him that everyone noticed. After a lot of preaching he did in Manila including Manila Cathedral, meeting with the families in Mall of Asia Arena, University of Santo Thomas, Quirino Grandstand and tacloban Leyte. The Pope said the main reason for visiting the Philippines was to meet survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan. It was good to know that he…
