Position Paper: HDHD, is it a real disease?
Following the Psychology 101 Guidelines
I will be discussing the controversy over Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (HDHD). Some psychologists believe that Attention- Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is defined as a combination of problems, such as difficulty sustaining attention, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior. Some psychologists believe that Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a “fictitious disease”. Others believe that it is a psychological disease that explains a psychological disorder. Those that believe that Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity disorder is a “fictitious disease”, have argued that ADHD was just a theory by Leon Eisenberg, but was never actually proven to exist as a verifiable disease. It has also been said that modern psychiatry continues to profit as well, helping also to fill the coffers of the pharmaceutical industry by getting children addicted at an early age to dangerous psychostimulant drugs like Ritalin and Adderall. (Martino) Dr. Edward C. Hamlyn, a founding member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, stated that “ADHD is fraud intended to justify starting children on a life of drug addiction.” (Martino) Those professionals that do believe that ADHD is real have stated that nearly every mainstream medical, psychological, and educational organization in the United States long ago concluded that Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a real, brain-based medical disorder. I do believe that ADHD is a real diagnosis and can be treated effectively.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a chronic condition that affects millions of children and often persists into adulthood. Some professionals would even argue that Leon Eisenberg, would have said that your kid is fine. It has been said that in his death bed, Eisenberg admitted that ADHD is essentially a “fictitious disease”. (Natural News) Because he said this some people believe that millions of young children today are being needlessly prescribed severe mind- altering drugs that will set them up for a life of drug addiction and failure. (Natural News) ADHD was simply a theory developed by Eisenberg and was never actually proven to exist as a demonstrable disease, despite the fact that Eisenberg and many others have profited greatly from its widespread diagnosis. (Natural News) Dr. Edward C. Hamlyn, a founding member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, states that, “ADHD is fraud intended to justify starting children on a life of drug addiction. (Natural News)
Other professionals argue that Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a real mental disorder. There is no known reason for the causes ADHD by scientists. Some of the causes for ADHD that are being studied are possible environmental factors, brain injuries, nutrition, genes and social environment might contribute to ADHD. (National Institute) ADHD symptoms usually appear early in life, often between the ages of 3 and 6, and because symptoms vary from person to person, the disorder can be hard to diagnose. (National Institute) A pediatrician or mental health specialist will need to evaluate the child to decide the proper diagnosis and treatment plan. The treatments for ADHD include medication, various types of psychotherapy, education and training, or combination of treatments. (National Institute) Stimulants such as methylphenidate and...
