Psy/311 Week 1 Reflection
I’ve learned several new things in this course, but there are some that stick out more than others. First, I learned about how the perceptions and sensations are heightened for someone with a sensory processing disorder. I didn’t realize exactly how overly sensitive they were to every day sensations, it almost reminds me of when my anxiety or migraines are flaring up, but it’s a continuous thing. The discussion we watched the video that showed us what it is like walking down a normal street with autism, which helped me to physically see it, so I could understand it better. I will use this information to understand more of what my friends or anyone I come in contact with that have one of these disorders, goes through on a daily basis. I am also an education major and this information …show more content…
I never really thought about gender besides that we are born either a man or woman. I’ve worked with transgender individuals before and I didn’t think much about it except that they are who they want to be. The main thing I learned from that lesson is the dangers in how you handle gender with your children. In the McGraw-Hill site, we learned about a child named Storm and how his parents are raising him genderless. I talked about this in the discussion on what did we think, but it is just something that has stuck with me. The American Psychological Association’s Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Concerns Office stated that there is no research available that says weather being raised a “genderless child” is harmful or not. To me, that just means that what they are doing is an experiment that can go horribly wrong just because their oldest is a transgendered child. I will use this information in my family life, if we decided to have children I plan on not overemphasizing gender. I think that will just confuse them if they do not know their gender. If they decide later to change who they are, we will accept that and love them for

How would you explain the analysis of variance, assuming that your audience has not had a statistics class before? The research study measured whether music therapy along side with visual imagery would decrease chemotherapy-induced anxiety and nausea-vomiting in patients going through chemotherapy. Researchers Karagozoglu, Tekayasar and Yilmaz (2013) sampled forty participants in the study, participants were provided with a document where they dispelled personal information, the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, a visual scale and a form to evaluation for nausea and vomiting (Karagozoglu, Tekyasar, and Yilmaz, 2013). The researchers used the same participants throughout the entire study. The results were significant which supported the hypothesis that music therapy along with visual imagery can cause a decrease chemotherapy-induced anxiety and nausea vomiting in chemotherapy patients. The study can support the notion that visual imagery can result in a form of relieving pain or stress.…

The state that this group is at right now is the “storming stage”(Robbins & Judge, 2013). Even though there are clear differences on the thinking of different groups of how to implement the after school program or who should head it, the common goal is still to meet the needs of the students and to better their learning and scores. The Woodson Foundation, the school and the NCPIE are coming together to form a development team but is having conflict on who will control the group and this is clearly a sign that the group is in its “storming stage”. If the group knew that there are five stages to fully become a functional group, they may come into an agreement to move onwards…

Industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology has been around for a long time. It has been studied since the beginning of the study of psychology. When I/O psychology was first studied the industrial side of it is what was focused on. The industrial side consisted of the management and human resources side, and the organization side, which consisted of making working conditions better, was not looked at too closely. As time has gone on the more both industry and organization has been looked at the same. The basic definition of I/O psychology is to try to apply the scientific principles of psychology of the workplace. It is said that the aim of I/O psychology is improve the environment for the employees while also improving the efficentness of the employees. There are many things that need to be understood to be able to understand the role of I/O psychology. Some of the major ideas to be understood in I/O psychology would have to be what the role of statistics and research play in the field. Once these are understood a person’s foundation in I/O psychology will be strong.…

A young mother you do try things to get your house to run as smooth as possible. I was trying to look for ways to get my four year old daughter to know what her chores are, how I was going to reward her for doing them with or without being told and ways to punish her if she didn’t do her chores at all even after I had asked her to do them. Trying to get my daughter to do her chores was one less thing I had to do and it was her way of helping around the house.…

Working for a big company, there is always something new to learn and new work that comes our way. There are many different personalities. We were always training and learning new material and tools to use to make our work more effective and productive. We would have meetings that were hours long so everyone can train on the new work and tools we had coming our way. Most of the people were struggling to learn the new tools. I was taking a class in which we were learning about peoples’ different learning styles. I thought all the training we were doing would be a great project for the class I was taking. I brought it to my bosses’ attention that I think that people are not learning because everyone has a different learning style. She was convinced that people were just tired and busy that’s why they could not understand the material. I wanted to test this theory. I suggested if we can give the employees on our team a learning test to see which way they better leaned. The results were exactly what I thought they were. Everyone had different learning styles. It turns out that most of the people on our team learned best Hands-On. Others were visual and the rest learned best by reading the material. This type of research method is best described as Correlation Research (positive correlation) because I was determining if two sets of variables are associated and if the variables increase or decrease. In this case when people used a learning method that fit best for them, they had better results for learning. When they were using a learning method that was not best for them, they were not learning the material. If I could have done anything different it would have been to test peoples’ personalities to determine if certain personalities learned a certain way. This would have gone more in depth as to why people learn the way they…

This week I was able to start working with a Dominican 15-year-old boy dealing with difficulties with emotional regulation and anger outbursts at home and school. I really felt good about being able to speak Spanish with the mother of the client who was present during the intake process. I felt a level of comfort that would take several appointments to achieve otherwise. The clients mother mentioned that I was the first Spanish provider she has worked with. Being able to speak Spanish brought a level of enthusiasm and richness to the extensive intake process. I was able to implement some of the tips my clinical supervisor had provided last week as to how to take information that would be essential in completing different assessments. I felt…

Observational learning is used in the workplace all the time. Many employers use observational learning with their employees. They first of all set the example of how they wish for the workplace to be run. Then they use training such as shadowing or placing a new hire in a position to observe the work ethics of fellow co-workers that have good work ethics and experiences. When I first started out working with the ministry I had to follow my pastor during home visits so as to get an idea of how to do things. How to interact with the people I would be ministering to. This was a form of learning through observation.…

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you all did well on the midterm exam we had last week. This course has been a very interesting challenge to tackle so far, and the assigned readings for Week Five were no exception. We learned through the assigned chapters and article on Professor Elizabeth Loftus that memory, an aspect of every individual which many believe as infallible, is actually fallible. In fact, the memory of a human being can be manipulated or limited, either intentionally or unintentionally, through various ways. This can cause problems as small as a family disagreement, remembering you were somewhere you never were, or even a failure to accurately recall a special event; however, it can also affect the reputation and sometimes…

I believe we need to treat transgender people equally just like we treat heterosexual people. It’s not by choice they assigned a gender at birth. For them their own inner gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. The essay, Transgender Portrayal Representation in Media, shows that more than a half of people mentally got effected by the influence of the media. Misleading of media hurts transgender people.…
