Checkpoint: Relationship characteristics

Choose one close relationship in your life; it does not have to be a romantic love relationship.

Post a 200- to 300-word response describing the defining characteristics of this close relationship. Use the information presented in Ch. 11 to formulate your response.

I have chose to discuss my relationship with my husband of 2 years; we have been together a total of 6 years. We have experienced a wide variety of emotions and situations together during this time. Being in a committed relationship for so long, I have learned to trust him and love him unconditionally, we have become each other’s best friend, partner and everything. I believe the main ingredients in making relationship work weather it’s a intimate one or just close relationships you must have Knowledge, Trust, Caring, Interdependence, Mutuality, and Commitment. My main three for my relationship is knowledge, trust and commitment. (Knowledge) During our six years being together we have grown to love and care for each other as well as getting to know every aspect of one another, from favorite movie, to what makes him sensitive to what he dislikes and likes, our most kept secrets to things we have only shared with one another. We have a connection that we cant hide anything from each other we share things with each other that normally you would want to keep private. (Trust) in our relationship we have gone through battlefields and I believe no relationship is “perfect” but within time we learned to trust each other especially from previous mistakes. We are open with each other we let each other know everything and we communicate. (Commitment) we have had ours ups and downs, but we learned how to work with every obstacle that our relationship has faced. Being loyal, honest and faithful to each other is the only way we can stay strong in our relationship and this shows that we are putting effort on wanting to be with each

I am personally disgusted by this study. It makes me sick to see that people were getting shocked for the wrong answer. It is inhumane and horrifying. Using principles in critical thinking when it comes to sexual decision is very important. I grew up in a house hold where my parents had only been with each other, and they have been together since they were 13 years of age. Growing up this is what I always went by. You have to use critical thinking when it comes to these types of decisions because you do not know want to make a choice that will haunt you for the rest of your life, you want to have a clear mind about it looking back and knowing you did not make a mistake. When I met my husband, there were a lot of things we talked about before we had sex, the history of our past, the precautions we were going to take and what would happen next. I want to know that if we were going to be getting intimate with each other I wanted it to last, because we was not married. Using critical thinking and these steps that people use may seems little ridiculous to a lot of people, but there are so many diseases, such as STDs and so many things that sex links to. I think that if you are using critical thinking then you will not make any type of mistake when it comes to sex. In these days and time they do not think about what they are doing and that is why so many young people have STD, AIDS and/or are pregnant. I believe that children should be raised to use their critical thinking when it comes to a life changing event, such as sex. It is something that could change your life completely, more then what anyone else thinks. You want to know that you are making the right decisions when you about thinking about having sex for the first time, or even having sex with a new…

Romantic relationships are seen as “a joyful fusion of closeness [and] communication…” (McCornack, 2010, p. 322) These relationships provide more of a bond than a regular relationship connected with friends and people we know but aren’t close to. A romantic relationship is a chosen interpersonal involvement built through communication in which both people in the relationship see it as romantic. In the development of a relationship, there are five stages. In the phase McCornack calls “coming together” there are five stages: initiating, experimenting, intensifying, integrating, and bonding. The main stage I will be analyzing is the intensifying stage.…

Another thing that my boyfriend and I can do to strengthen our relationship is to communicate with one another more and not just chit-chat to break the silence. I believe that if we talked more about how we felt and what has been going on in our lives, our relationship would be a lot stronger. Our relationship is strong now but I think that it still needs work and some tender loving care. Not any one relationship is perfect and everyone needs to work on themselves as much as the relationships they have in their lives.…
