    Rachel Naomi Remen's perception on serving, helping and fixing are understandable but I can't say that I agree with her sentiments. What I agree with most is when she says "When I fix a person I perceive them as broken." I think naturally when someone explains to you that they have fixed something, they assume you have fixed something that was broken or not quite right since it needed repair. I do not however always agree that when you fix something or someone you are judging. When you have people who have needed fixing themselves and then when they are "whole" have the opportunity to "fix" someone else, a lot of people find it humbling and are grateful for the opportunity to pay it forward. I personally do not like the word "fix". I feel that to say someone needed to be "fixed" or more so that YOU "fixed" them is showing a great deal of impertinence.…

    I think that these events foreshadowed Okonkwo’s and the Ibo tribe’s demise because every single one of the events affected Okonkwo negatively and led to some of change in his life. It starts with Okonkwo’s father being a bum in the tribe and neglecting his responsibility to his family. His death was also degrading because his body was thrown in the forbidden forest and Okonkwo always worked towards not becoming someone like him. However, at the end Okonkwo’s “burial” is the same and he becomes the failure he tried to avoid. He considered himself a failure because he was unable to rid the tribe of the colonists because he could see that the culture was diminishing but he failed to bring the tribe to fight after his exile. He was exiled because he killed a boy at the wedding which he was invited to after he killed Ikemefuna so that he could clear his mind with a distraction. Overall, every event led to something which foreshadowed Okonkwo’s demise as well as the tribe’s.…

    As my grandmother says “life is not a bed of roses”. Everyday we have to face difficult situations, problems at work, and pay debts among others. It is not easy. On the one hand, to some people, life is hard, cruel and merciless. On the other hand, there are those who see life as a challenge, a channel of discovery and innovation.
