Pros And Cons Of Working Without A Proofreader
I am aware of my weakness, and you just confirm my deepest regret. I actually feel the same way as you felt when you view this presentation, as I do when I read some our assign readings. I wish I had time to submit my assignments to the writing lab, but I don’t. What author actually publishes their work without a proofreader and an editor at their right hand? English has never been my best subject, and probably won’t be. I am not a great proofreader and trust me, I know my spelling needs a lot of help, I have (3) clericals who work for me to do just that fix my mistakes. My feelings aren’t hurt and I appreciate your concern. Please remember my name not for my grammatical errors or misspell words, but remember me because I am one of the next

    Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

    In the passage Death to high school English, written by Kim Brooks, explains the thoughts of a college professor who teaches composition, and is dealing with students who do not know how to write at all. Brooks story is told in first person, simply because she experienced it firsthand. The tone of this passage seemed to be mostly frightening because Brooks was in shock at how terrible the writing was and had to put a stop to it and make a change. Another tone that was noticeably present in the text was disbelieving. Disbelieving was definitely present because Brooks was in complete disbelief, disbelief in how students at this age and experience still do not know how to properly write. “I’ve begun to wonder if this typical high school English class, dividing its curriculum between standardized tests preparation and the reading of canonical texts, might occupy a central place in the creation of a generation of college students who, simply put, cannot write” (Brooks). Brooks writes with an annoyed tone, and a very powerful vocabulary which helps her back up her point very specifically.
