Pros And Cons Of The Trump University Scandal
Throughout the 2016 US presidential election, there were criticisms of Donald Trump's shady business practices with his university aptly named Trump University. Trump University is a for-profit University that was and is considered a scam by many of the people who attended trump university. A number of people who were dissatisfied with the education have grown so large that a class action lawsuit was filed against Trump University. “Former customers say they were misled by advertisements that said Donald Trump had hand-picked instructors for the program and that they would learn tricks to be successful that were used by Trump himself (Staglin Para.10)”. Before I was introduced to the Trump University scandal I had no Idea what for-profit Institution was. A For-Profit is …show more content…
If Everyone understands the issues with For-Profit institutions and spread the facts of what For-Profit institutions are actually doing will slowly kill off the Private for-profit institutions. Next time when anyone votes for a mayor, Governor, Senator, or a state representative they can check if their candidate understands the issue of for profit institutions because the more people in power understand of the plagues the middle and lower class the better off everyone else is. While there may be benefits with for-profit institutions such as the ability to have a much more of a flexible schedule compared to public nonprofit institution. People believe For-profit institutions are for students who are working a full time and want a competitive advantage in their field. Full time employees are the ones who targeted to by For-Profit Institution because full time employees typically feel cornered and there are no better options. Full time employees do have much better options such as night school which is offered by a ton of institutions such as Kent state university and Baldwin Wallace

    I remember wanting to sell magazines, candy, Sally Foster wrapping paper, and jewelry so that I could try to win a free pizza party and limo ride. I remember the PowerAde and Coca Cola sold on campus. Not only did they cost $1.25 for the 20 ounce bottle but the only place you could buy Pepsi was at the student store. Corporations advertise for free in huge masses when they help provide funding for school. “The schools aren’t just looking for ways to advertise: they’re also concerned with the student’s perceptions of various products” (Moore 145). Another example would be the box top providers like General Mills. These corporative sponsors are “immersing children in sophisticated, integrated marketing campaigns for their food and beverages” (Golin) and this brainwashes us to be conformists, “its intention is to make children alike as possible” (Gatto 156). Not only are these corporations marketing and placing corporative logos everywhere, the way we are taught in History is from the point of view of the conqueror, in which case is always America. If America is going to show students their side, they must also teach to learn to accept other sides. Students are taught patriotism and the righteousness of the Almighty United States of America, when in actuality we are brainwashed to categorize, separate, and distinguish ourselves as better than others and should be taught…

    Many have the notion that these athletic programs are self-sustaining, but the money required to run them comes from a multitude of sources just for an individual program to stay afloat. It suggests that the cutting of other resources to cover the high costs may be justified to keep the programs alive. For some colleges however, that still would not be enough, as outside donations are needed to not go into the red. Subsidized dollars were used to hide the true number of actual profitable NCAA programs, thus overvaluing them. In the 2011 fiscal year, only seven of 255 public universities were not subsidized. Those seven colleges had a host of resources such as television contracts, alumni donations, and corporate sponsorships. Many colleges had to look into the student fees as well as their own resources, just to break even, with most not even achieving that. Investment is done towards athletics as it is far easier to make national publicity by winning a championship than to make national publicity of an equivalent accomplishment in another campus department. Continued investment causes the rich to get richer, and the poor to get poorer as universities try to spend more just to compete and keep up with other universities.     This paper explores articles and research conducted on nonprofit versus For-Profit Healthcare and Organizations. There are three types of entities that own hospitals, which are: nonprofit, for-profit, and government. However, it can’t be determined if they specialize in different medical services or how their service profits affect certain specializations. More than likely, the for-profits offer profitable medical services that benefit the organization, which would lead to believe that the nonprofits are in the middle, leaving the government with offering the unprofitable services. The for-profits are also quite responsive to the changes associated with service profitability than the nonprofit or government entities. Therefore, it would be necessary to evaluate the value of nonprofit hospital ownership and differentiate between the service offerings amongst the hospital types. Looking into the ways that for-profit hospitals make profits, it would be necessary to take into consideration the geographical location versus the well insured citizens that are located within the area.     In this article taken from the book Limbo: Blue-Collar Roots, White Collar Dreams, the journalist/author Alfred Lubrano brings up many things readers wouldn’t normally associate with college. Essentially his main point is to tell the readers that college slowly but surely cuts off connections with people you were once close with, such as family, old hometown boyfriends, and old friends from your hometown that didn’t end up choosing to go to college.
