Pros And Cons Of Raising Minimum Wage
Should Minimum Wage be Raised?

Some people believe that raising minimum wage will help with economic growth, while others believe that minimum wage would do the opposite and actually force the manager to lay off many employees and raise unemployment levels. After researching both sides of this argument I believe that minimum wage should not be raised because after the price is higher, the company will not have enough money to pay all their employees and would have to make sacrifices such as laying off employees and maybe replacing them with machines so they don't have to pay them. If the minimum wage is raised many bad things could happen because of it. I think that raising the minimum wage should not be raised because it could mean many

I disagree. Instead of reducing income inequality, the raise of minimum wage would actually drastically change how much people get. Some people who are currently working minimum wage, like unskilled workers, would now get more money than they usually get, but they could get fired because they are not doing the best job and not working well enough to get the bigger amount of money. For example, a person who is working to pick up trash in the park is currently getting 7 dollars an hour, after the minimum wage is raised the person would now get 10 dollars an hour which is 3 dollars more that they would get normally. Since the person is an unskilled worker and this is the only job he can get, the park owner might agree that instead of paying the unskilled worker 10 dollars, he might as well pay a better skilled worker who picks up more trash per hour and is worth the new price raise. In result of this, the other person with less skills would actually get fired and not get payed at all. This would change income equality to be even more that it would normally. The other claim people make is that raising the minimum wage would lead to a healthier environment. This is not true. With all the unskilled workers and people who the company cannot afford to keep working will all be unemployed and they would not get any money. With no money the people who got fired would still have to take care of themselves and their family, using money. After some time, the unemployed person would not have enough money to feed himself and he would try to get a job. This would have a very low chance of working out because people who usually pay 7 dollars would not have to pay 10 dollars for a small job.

Many business owners have argued that raising the minimum wage would cause hardship and cause businesses to raise their prices, but many workers argue that raising the minimum wage is necessary to help low-income workers to get out of poverty. Two main issues that workers face are insufficient wages to support their families which causes them to depend on government funding. Secondly, workers are faced with decreased job satisfaction due to making low wages. In my opinion, minimum wages should be increased because it will allow workers to feel that they have job security. Additionally, increased pay will allow people to further support themselves and avoid taking benefits from the government and can use…

Minimum wage has both good and bad effects. We have to take into account the worker that works for minimum wage. They barely have anything left after all the tax money is deducted. It’s hard to maintain a family when someone works for that little money. We have also seen some solutions to minimum wage problems. The government should not raise the minimum wage.Nothing good can come from raising the minimum wage. And if any good comes from it will be cancelled out by all the bad. As unfortunate as it sounds, raising the minimum wage will cause a drop in the job market. If a major retailer had to raise their wages for their workers they would have to get the money from somewhere. That means a raise in the price of goods and the laying off of positions that could be replaced by automated systems. The repercussion of this is an increase in Demand and a lowering of Supply. This means along with the minimum wage increasing, so would the expenses associated with living. There would be an increase in the price of goods and services. A job Shortage would…

If you increase the wage for the workers the money has to come from somewhere. While people will lose their jobs because of the budget cuts to accommodate the now higher wage, prices will increase as well. An increase in price will help business to keep making a profit after a federal minimum wage increase. The CATO Institute published an article titled “Four Reasons Not to Raise the Minimum Wage” the article quotes “It May Result In Higher Prices For Consumers The costs of minimum wage increases must be paid by someone • The 2012 Wilson review noted: A 2004 “review of more than 20 minimum wage studies looking at price effects found that a 10 percent increase in the U.S. minimum wage raises food prices by up to 4 percent.” Raising the prices of consumer goods would help keep jobs and help keep the profit of companies, but it would hurt our wallets and…

Another reason why I believe it would be beneficial to raise the minimum wage is because of the fact that it would help our economy in the long run by increasing consumer spending. If minimum wage was to be raised, then people would earn more money to the point where they are able to pay for their basic necessities and still have money left over; this would cause to an increase in consumer spending, and that would not only be beneficial to businesses, but also to the economic growth in local and national economies.…

Opponents of this minimum wage raise believe it will lead to layoffs for employees in low-skilled jobs; however, the research indicates businesses will be stable enough to handle paying reasonably more to their minimum wage employees. Additionally, raising the federal minimum wage will allow millions of workers to be financially independent which will save the taxpayers millions of dollars otherwise going toward welfare for the minimum wage workers. Another benefit of raising the minimum wage is better quality lives for hard working Americans making the minimum wage; people working full time should not be in poverty and raising the minimum wage can ensure full time workers are compensated fairly. Undeniably, there is a problem in the American economy if a full time employee relies on welfare and does not have a home to go to after working hours on…
