Pros And Cons Of Plant Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is a method of plant breeding that allows the transfer of genes from one plant into another, unrelated, plant species. The chief goal of producing genetically modified plants is to create species that do not naturally occur in the environment.
Pros of plant genetic engineering include:
Creating crops that are resistant to herbicides.
Creating crops that possess resistance to insects.
Producing plants that have richer nutritional value.
Creating plants that could serve as vaccines.
The cons include:
Reducing of the diversity of species (both plants as well as animals).
Unexpected and unknown health side effects.
The ecological damage caused by the possible uncontrollable spread of certain weeds or plant species.

    -Genetic engineering is an area in biotechnology that induces cell alterations in any kind of organism. It is based on artificial manipulation and transfer of genetic material from one organism to another. Basically the cells coded in with the new genetic information will pass those selected traits on to their offspring. Genetic combinations might be useful but not often found in nature. Genetic engineering now a days, is used in medicine to produce insulin and growth hormones, for those who lack it.
