Pros And Cons Of Making Designer Babies
Against Designer Babies There are many disagreements about designer babies, disagreements like how people want their babies to be super smart or very athletic, people want their babies to have different characteristics. If people want their babies to be smart and athletic they need to grow that way. The practice of making designer babies is wrong. To begin with designer babies wouldn’t make the human race thrive. When the gene pool of the most popular genes, then they are reducing the human gene pool. The variation of the gene is the cause of the human race to survive, the variation helps the humans withstand any diseases and other genetic problems. (Krimsky1)
Their human traits are typically for enhancements, intelligent or personalities.

James Gallagher, a health editor for BBC News which is ranked as one of the most objective and credible U.S news sources, constructed an article called “Designer babies' debate should start, scientists say” (January 15, 2015). Within this source, Gallagher claims that leading scientists have told BBC that based on the current progress in the understanding of genetics, society needs to be prepared to come to terms with the ethics that surround the concept. In order to provide foundation for his argument, Gallagher brings up questionably unethical scenarios relating to designer babies, and adds what some scientists that work closely with genetics have to say about the topic. For instance, Gallagher added the opinion of Dr. Tony Perry, a professor…

While it’s tempting to pay for a designer baby it is reminiscent of creating a “master race”. If people are allowed to create the perfect child, what happens to the unique qualities and diversified population? I feel that is order for the human race to survive we need a wide spectrum of genetic differences.…

My thoughts on designer babies is that it is a wonderful thing to research, but now it's crossing the line. It's amazing how we can take DNA and change it to what we like it to become, but this is someone’s life you are changing. Not only this, but this is now a rather large debate going on about this. Whether or not this practice is palatable or not. It's important to research and make amazing discoveries, but putting someone's life on the line shouldn't be something to put under the…

Without the factor of designer babies, there is already competition between who runs faster and who can play better. Although that is the reason for extra-curricular activities, the rise in competition will be an extreme amount if designer babies are thrown into the picture. The fear of having “a race of super humans” (Baird 16) will not only create competition, it will also create a more defined level of social classes because the “genetically enhanced children [will have] an advantage over the children born with the ‘luck of the draw’ genes” (Designer Babies). Another concern that some people have is that messing with the genetics of a human could damage the gene pool and have long term consequences that doctors and scientists have not yet discovered (Baird 16). Similarly, some people wonder that if this procedure was safe then why are animals dying after being genetically engineered. Even if scientists can prefect this process through animals, are multiple humans going to have to die in order for scientists to be able to do this procedure safely and efficiently? Most of these people think it is a stupid risk to jeopardize human lives in order to create “super humans” (Baird…

I do not support this side because you shouldn’t modify your babies to make them how you would like them, you should accept them the way they are. Tanya Lewis, who is a specialist in biology and staff writer at Live Science, said that “germline editing that leads to the creation of designer babies, is not required to live normally ” (Lewis). She also made a good point about DNA modification that says “DNA that has been carefully selected to enhance their appearance, intelligence, or other traits that are not medically necessary” (Lewis). Another reason that people are against “designer babies” is because they think that people will try to improve races in humans. I agree with all of the people who are going against designing babies because they make very solid points and all of the points make sense.…

At the begging people will be against it, over the years people will turn over to the change but is that a good thing? If modifying a baby has its good side then it should also have it bad sides. Right now on earth we have over 7 billion people and if everybody besided to start having Designer Babies there will be no individuals why?.. Because everyone will be this extremely intelligent, mega strong non-aging human being. We are not all meant to be the same. If you have a bad gene wear your bad gene. The fact that people can make newborns in to technically robots, is something to think about. Having a Designer Baby means you can choose what your baby looks like, acts like,if they have any allergies if they look more like mom or dad if even if they look them at all. But what would that mean for our future? If all kids become Genetically Modified no one would be different we would all be the same wouldn’t it, because if we all become the ultimate human with zero flaw, there would be individuality. Im talking about shape, strength, intelligents those are all different levels in every human being on earth, if you go in and make everyone's levels has high as they can be, we would be no different than robots. “It is true that Genetic Engineering can cure many diseases but it can lead to new ones as well. How do we know for sure that mixing DNA to…

Imagine, deciding to have a baby but instead of going to the hospital going somewhere similar to subway to “have it your way.” Designer babies give humans the ability to choose wanted characteristics for a child. Although the technology for this project is still in its first steps, today it is a possibility. Designer babies seem like a fabulous idea but it should not be worth overpopulating the world, using babies as science experiments, and only allowing the rich to create a perfect baby.…

There are many ways in which Designer Babies can benefit the baby and it's future. All the studies and all the benefits support the claim that Designer Babies is a good thing. This matters because of how this idea could impact the future of all humans, just a few examples could be: humans would all be smarter, healthier, and live longer. The only way this can be achieved is if people realize how much Designer Babies can really benefit mankind. People must realize all of the benefits that come with Designer Babies, notice how this could actually save lives, and benefit the human race for the future and years to…

Genetic engineering often gets a bad rap with changing the natural evolutionary cycle, but it could, with proper guidance, improve almost every aspect of daily life. Advances in the Biotech Revolution have made many things that we had merely considered to be science fiction or a thing of dreams are now possible. The fact of the matter is that genetic engineering is applicable to everyday life while still being ethical and inline with people’s morals.…

To start off, considering a family does choose to genetically modify and separate a child from the true family line of genes can have really bad risks. The procedure in which designer babies are made outside the mother's stomach like stated before the main questions for this is "Is the baby getting enough food and nutrients?" Although, that is not the only risk. Just putting the genes inside is a risk...The embryo inside can pop causing the baby to die. On the other hand this can be justified, all birth can lead to a miscarriage natural or not. Having a designer baby or natural baby, both children will get the same kind of care to make it out safely.…

Consumer driven eugenics practices like designer babies, provide parents with choices, something that the old eugenics never did. However, these choices may inhibit conditions for choice in the future. Screening embryos for diseases and creating children “In our own image” (Galton, David (2001)) can help parents give their children the best quality of life possible. Yet, in the future these techniques could put pressure on parents to create increasingly perfect children and enhance them above the normal species functioning. This may result in parents who choose to continue a pregnancy…

As the human race we have come far technologically, we have found out how organisms work, how our planet works, and how our bodies work.We are now on the verge of creating and producing perfect babies. Babies that have no problems concerning genes. The problem is, do we really want to play with nature, do we really want to mess with the natural order? I personally think we should give it a try, the possibilities could help us in the event of a major disaster. Like in the movie GATTACA, they depicted how perfect humans would work in the future. This movie could be how genetic advances could end up, or it could start wars. In this paper there will be pro and cons of genetic developments with a summary.…
