Captivity can be for animals to keep them safe from hunters, environmental changes and used for food. Occupytheory.com says “Animals are being hunted down for a lot of reasons including their fur, ivory, some medical benefits (that aren’t proven), and sometimes even for their meat.” (“List of Pros and Cons of zoos.” 2015). Orcas and dolphins would be safer in captivity for these reasons, dolphins right now are being hunted in Japan for their meat and whales can be used for meat as well.

They need space because they aren’t used the small conditions of the pool and that can cause a lot of problems for them and possibly for the trainers.
