Pros And Cons Of American Imperialism

U.S. Imperialism: Is it a Good Idea? In the past fifty years, America has grown. Through the rapid economic expansion caused by industrialization, America has broadened her horizons and become a fully modern state. Now it’s time to take up “the white man’s burden” and imperialize. Converse to people’s view of conquest during the middle ages, today’s imperialization competition is no longer just a race for land. It’s a race for land AND resources. It is time that the US join this race. The US must engage in imperialization because there are simply too many benefits to be had from it.
Trade in Europe is as robust as ever. European nations have planted their flags in many countries and territories on all continents. As they expand their reach, they gather resources and conquer key strategic positions around the globe. Some European nations could pose a threat to the US in the future. Too many Europeans in our backyard is a product of imperialization. To counter this, we should start imperializing as well. Take Haiti, for example. Haiti is a key gateway to the Atlantic ocean. Almost any piece of land has something to offer. Kamerun is one such piece of land. Its resources include oil, cotton, cobalt, nickel, gold, ivory, tea, timber, coffee, bananas, and pineapples. Though it is controlled by a foreign power, it has the potential to become a wealthy and powerful nation. If America were to establish a sphere of influence and maybe treaty with Germany, then perhaps we could work for better treatment of the people, while simultaneously building trade relations with Kamerun. The possibilities are endless. Most if not all of Kamerun’s resources could benefit American industry. As Industry grows, more and more resources are needed to produce more and more products.
