Proposal For Designing and Developing an Integrated IS strategy for WPTV.

1. A summary of the current business processes.

WPTV is a #1 rated TV station in West Palm Beach. It is dedicated to providing the most complete and current news coverage to it’s viewers through excellence in journalism. WPTV is actively involved in community service projects. (1) In 2007, WPTV was the 1st TV station to broadcast news in HD(high definition) making WPTV a leader in innovative technology. WPTV needs to increase viewers and viewer participation through the implementation of wireless applications and an interactive TV broadcasting. It has formed an interactive media development group to help aide in the incorporation and integration of an Internet/E-commerce strategy to keep WPTV a leader in innovation. Currently, WPTV is using local area networks of PC’s and running windows 8 OS. The goal is to upgrade and or replace existing equipment and integrate a digital and social media so that viewers will continue to stay engaged 24/7. Also, giving viewers the opportunity to contribute to news and have real time conversations with newscasters.
WPTV business process at present does not included a web presence. WPTV business process is to gather information and report back to the community through television broadcast. The community is served through TV and print. WPTV relies on advertising to generate revenue. WPTV sells ads to local , national and political customers.
In order for WPTV to stay current they will need tocreate a unified website that extends across web, mobile and tablet. The web is the gateway through which the community can gain access to information they want 24/7 on the go and it is the most effective way to communicate to the masses.
Rich Boehne, CEO of E.W.Scripps believe that “cookie cutter nature of many local TV stations hinders their ability to develop and adapt to successful new business models.” Also, that the role of WPTV is to provide “great



Links: to forums and blogs will be available and customer feedback. The web site will have links to other affiliate stations. The website will have a link for weather and emergency updates. The WPTV web site will also have access to a downloadable link for its app. Social media and web coverage allow the community to stay connected in emergency situations through forums for family and friends. Traffic and road closings can be posted by viewers in real time to assist the broadcasters as well as other viewers. The social aspect for the web is very beneficial to viewer and broadcasters. The website will have a link to community service and contribution page where donations can be made for specific causes. WPTV needs to stay current and engaging in order to continue to have a #1 rating year after year. In order to do this they must implement a web presence so that viewers have the capability to have news and other important local information at their fingertips at any time. Using the World Wide Web can only enhance WPTVs already #1 rated Broadcast and generate additional revenue through it’s online advertisers.
