Proposal Paper

In this essay, I have decided to touch on a very eye opening subject of domestic violence and the effects. I got the idea from the story, “The Day It Happened” by Rosario Morales, and the situation involving the characters Ramon and Josie. This is a real and everyday issue that should people should be more educated on. I have done some research on all aspects of domestic violence and the effects of the many possible victims in a family. I am interested in finding out why the victims become victims, psychological effects on a all possible household members, and where perpetrators come from. Domestic violence exists in many different forms. Though we may never actually know the answer to why women stay in these situations or if abusive tenancies are passed to experienced children. It can be shown that there are many psychological affects this can have on both women and children who are involved in or witness abuse that may cause the cycle to repeat itself. There are some arguments that talk about how this is caused by low education, depression, or race and ethnicity. I will touch on other reasons women do not leave or follow through with permanently leaving the relationship. There can be fear of repercussions for further violence due to attempting to leave or going up against them in court. When this is the case, most of the time, the perpetrators who are arrested are released with little or no jail time. If there is a child involved, they hear or see much of the violence that goes on and may repeat the behavior when due to the scars it leaves them. This may cause them to think this is “normal” family life. A few of the psychological effects are depression, anxiety, or other psychotic symptoms. In the inspiring story, Josie chose to leave Ramon due to his emotional and physical abuse. She did not fear that reaction from him when she made the decision to leave for both her and her future child's safety. It is rare

Will Bury, an enterprising inventor, is convinced that soon everyone will be reading or listening to everything digitally, including books that have been mostly available in hard copy. He knows that there are books on CD, but these are relatively expensive and have been recorded using human readers. He also knows that there is technology that can transform the printed word into audio, but the sound is somewhat inhuman. Will plans on speeding up the transformation with a proprietary technology he has developed and patented. This technology takes the printed word for text materials and creates a file with the option of reading it digitally or listening to it with a realistic synthetic voice. Will knows that he has free access to books no longer under copyright protection, and he figures he can pay a royalty fee of $5 per title for copyrighted books that will greatly expand his catalog. So far, he has limited himself to English-language books but is working on a language translation option as well.…

There are many reasons that victims of domestic violence don't "just leave". One of these reasons is financial problems. Leaving can mean no money or shelter. Another reason is fear. Many victims are afraid of what might happen if they try to leave the relationship. Another reason can be the idea that the victim is at fault. The abuser may convince the victim that the victim is at fault for the abuse as a form of…

There are many reasons why individuals remain in abusive relationships. For instance, fear, financial reasons, and psychological issues can all impact a person’s ability to seek help or escape this situation. I can only speak for myself but I was in an abusive relationship and what gave me the courage and strength to leave was knowing that nothing could be worse the life I was living. I escaped because I was mentally able to access the situation in its entirety. I was 20 years old at the time I am close to 40 now and have never returned to that life again.( This happened 17 years ago) Living in a shelter there were many women who because of culture differences found it hard to leave their abuser. What I learned is that in certain cultures women…

I had an elder friend who, at the time, was 19 years old. Her name was Monica. She was an impressive, independent, strong, young woman who would have never seemed like a target for domestic violence. She became trapped in a perilous relationship where she was the vulnerable prisoner. She seemed so strong that surely she had the strength to leave. I pondered on her situation multiple times and came to the conclusion that there must have been some logical explanation or reason why she hadn’t left. I couldn’t figure it out… so I asked her. People stay in abusive relationships because of conflicting emotion, reliance on the abuser, and pressure.…

Domestic violence is a pattern of repeated abuse that the abuser uses to gain some sense of power and control, over the victim. Unlike stranger violence, domestic violence situations the assault to the same victim. Domestic violence can exist without any form of understanding because you could never find out from that abuser why they abuse. In a response to Leslie Morgan Steiner’s presentation, Leslie does not originally leave for the sake of love but this delusional love takes a sharp turn into isolation, intimidation, physical, emotional, and financial abuse. I have been fortunate enough to have read Leslie Morgan Steiner’s book “Crazy Love” and it provided me with a refined understanding of why victims of domestic violence stay. Not having experienced a domestic violent relationship myself, I was initially critically opinionated against those who chose to stay. I found it difficult to fathom why anyone would want to stay. Steiner beautifully painted a picture whereby it is simple minded to believe that all victims want to stay, the picture is bigger than what it appears to…

There are many reasons as to why people abuse their partners and it can be a very individual. The biggest reason for men committing domestic violence is power and control over their partner. Although for some people it can be related to alcohol and being aggravated (Indermaur, 1999). For a long time domestic violence was not a subject to be spoken about. Until the late 20th century when it became recognised by the United Nations as a human rights abuse; because of this the government has made it a priority (Green & Ward, 2010).…

The purpose of this proposal is to address the condition of our private landing and propose a reconstruction solution. Every camp owner will benefit from this as our current landing is in dire need of repairs. The constant rise and fall of the Mississippi River over the past few years has played havoc on the parking area and if not addressed will only get worse. I am concerned with the progressing deterioration of the landing. If we choose to do nothing, it will not be long before we will be launching our boats at the public landing down the street. I have prepared a proposal including a detailed list of what we can expect to pay and if the majority can agree, I can have this project completed just in time for when school lets out in May.…
